Advanced Baviaans Trip run by Rough and Ready
Well, Well, Well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its Rough and Ready and off we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The trip was amazing, the accomodation was amazing, the food was.... yes you guesed it, amazing, the company!! yes you guessed it, amazing!!!
Do I need to say more? Yes!!!!!!!!!!! I will add some pics to better explain after I give you some of the rough and ready stats.
Stats: Nights away were 3, Bikes 4, Pillions 0, Aprox. Distance 2400kms, Feul Consumption 183liters on my GSA, Accomodation four to five star, Food definitly five star, five star company, price for three nights and supper with back up vehicle R1600pp. Unknown quantity of unknown liquids!!!, Temperature in excess of 43 degrees celcius. River crossings 0 , Minor injuries 1 or 2, Major injuries 0, SIde stand incidents in excess of 10, 0 major bike problems, when I say this I mean nothing that Rony could not fix. Personal conflicts 0.
Okay, get on with it then, some pictures......... the funniest picture!! I explain.....
Rony our leader was bushed from a hard days and retired to his tepee a little earlier than the rest of us.: However, his mate from Uitenhage insisted on making a BIG fire inside, when this was done he piereed from out side and said, "just another ten minutes then he'll be done?" It was soo funny!! Maybe we all had too much wine. Strue!!!
Tristan was nicnamed "big chief white hair" or something like that. I do remember though that he was very proud of his name.: Tristan chanted around the huge fire outside like a real red indian came back to where we sat and said, "we needum red indian names for all" much like Nelosn Mandela would have said it. It was really funnny. I will add um names in if um red necks remindum me!!
Thanks to Rony for finding this venue and for convincing them that we were not normal bikers.: The Taipai was fantastic and we could have quite easily been in America experiencing this authentic green life style.
The Choosen ones on the difficult summit was Rusty, Tristan, Rony and Harly
The route less travelled? Yes! on Saturday we mainly did the most amazing 4x4 track accross private farms: Tricky momentum requiring farm roads with shocking ruts I'm always scared of. From Calitzdorp to the Dooring kloof Farm in Baviaans,. It was really tough and awsome. Much cooler too until we came down to a stinking 44 deg Cels
Tristan was not happy that his front wheel slipped out from under him on his new bike. Enough said T. I did promise.: Rony to the rescue.
Tristan my main man was "anx" I love afrikaans words, after his ride to the farm called Outspan where we drank unlimited amounts: Dripping with dust stained sweat we drank copeouse amounts of liquids that even Geoff would have been proud of, correction make that Jurg,
As I said, dust stained sweat: Not a happy chappy
However there is nothing a good old farm swim in yellow water in high drought season cant fix. Soon enough my good buds back: soon my buds were as good as new and we could r i d e.
Then the Bush Camp. Another great accomodation product Rony, well done once again. I forgot no water or river crossings.: It was perfect however the river as all were dry
Rony and Hairy Harley chewing the cudd over a cold beer glad the hot day was comming to an end: Sorry this is not Harley but Tristan, Harley was so quiete and well behaved I often wondered if he was'nt a New Zelander?? Chaffs!!!
Ok This is a picture of Harley and Lee: The bush camp was bush busy but urban quite and lends itself to lazing around chatting and drink cool beers
Another fab lunch where we thanked our hosts and gave them a nice buffet lunch: What a line up of magnificent flying machines. And did they fly?? Ask Harley, his flew faster than anyones.
1st Nights Accomodation...A whole house all to ourselves.
2nd Nights Accomodation.....The real Indian was also included
3rd and final nights accomodation....5 Star!!
This road....or rather jeep track had some awsome awsome views.
Some of us were really tired a lot of the time
Hey Russ. Nice intro to this tour. I will be adding to this in time??? Now that I look at that road again...did I say road??? what road....one word for it........HECTIC!!! Dito. Fantastic company, Awesome awesome tracks, First class accommodation and some really wholesome meals. Cheers Rony, Russ, Harley and Leigh(Back vehicle & Rony's Right hand Lady/Daughter.
Wow!! This looks incredible!!! Sounds like you had an awesome ride!! Looking forward to seeing more pics and to read a bit more about the ride...
Great report Russ, thanks !!When I heard about the ride I was so tempted to come with, but only for a minute as I realised that I don't yet ride well enough, but next year I want to come with
Well done on all of you for riding so well , and having such a great time too. And yes Harley does ride unbelievably well for someone who hasn't got knobblies and hardly ever lifts his bum from the seat , must be coz he's a Kiwi
This looks like an awesome trip to remember.
Great report and pics guys.
Well done.
Now I know why I was dehydrated the next morning, he made a bloody fire in my tent! Anyway as Russell points out here a hell of a trip with magic accommodations, Baviaans Easter weekend is going to be a smacker because we are going to stay at even better places. Well done Russell, Tristan where are the pictures! And for the flying dutch…. no new Zealander, thanks for the dust!
Jealous.
I called Rony a few days b4 the trip thinking I was going to be missing out on one of his incredible trips. He said it is EXTREME. I understood (like Rynet) that I am not ready for such a trip. So maybe next year I will be ready.
Nice trip report and photos Russ & Tristan
