(Cancelled) BMW MCC Advanced "OFF ROAD" ride this Sunday 15th January
The longer serving members will remember how often we had the Club's more ADVANCED Off Road Day rides and they were always very popular.
I have been receiving requests again to arrange another one. This ride will not suit beginners or even semi beginners. It is aimed at the above average rider.
The inevitable question I get is "how bad is the route"? Well not bad at all in fact it is merely that we leave Cape Town early in the morning (after a Wimpy breakfast) and we get home in the late afternoon/early evening and we stop very seldom along the way. Your riding skills will be challenged as we ride slightly faster than on our "normal" Club rides. No race mind you and we don't ride recklessly at any stage.
Ah, the route I hear you ask :
- We will meet at the Engen 1 Stop (Swartland) on the N7 5kms beyond the Melkbos turn off, then -
- Malmsbury, Moreesburg, Kapteinsklip, Eendekuil, Citrusdal, Clanwilliam, Biedouw Valley, Wuppertal, Eselbank, Cederberg Oasis for lunch, Op Die Berg, Ceres & home on tar.
- About 600kms
- Date : Sunday 15th January
- Meet at : Engen (Swartland) 1 Stop on the N7.
- Time : 06H30 for a Wimpy breakfast
- Depart : 07H15
- Lunch : R55.00 per person
- BRING : LOTS OF WATER AND YOUR COSTUMES
- RSVP : russell@aroma.co.za

Hi Geoff,
My bike is currently in for repairs. Hope to have it sorted by the week-end though. Any change I can "reserve" a spot untill, say Wednesday or Thursday? Should know by then if the spares will arrive.
Would the distance from Clanwilliam to Op die berg be less than say, 170km's . That is about the maximum for my HP2. Closer to 150km's is actually more "safe"
Regards

Jaco the garage is closed on Sunday's as far as I know.
Only open Monday to Friday and half day on Saturday.
Correct Jaco, no fuel available there on Sunday. You will need to carry some fuel. We can get fuel in Clan-William and again in Ceres. Slight possibility (depending on the time) of gas in Wuppertal.
You can siphon a few lts from my Adventure.
Ek is in Geoff.HeinCarstens.
Include me in Geoff - told Julie I have to come because I have a siphon-pipe for refuelling the Eishpee!
Hi Guys
I am new here...only got my lebbenfifty GSA last week Monday. Need to still register her in my name and do roadworthy etc. The Tourances she is shod with are also fairly shot.
I will see how things pan out though and will confirm my attendance before Sunday. I am not a very fast rider but from the route description it sounds like stuff I have ridden before so I should be fine.
You will have to come up with another reason ! My bike will not be ready in time. Front wheel bearings for the HP is on "back order" from Germany! Yes, hard to believe!
And is it not possible to find equivalent bearings from Bearing Man? Sorry you can't make it.
Wish I could join you (this is one of my favourite routes) but I am unfortunately working at one of our events on the day
Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
PS: Geoff you forgot to add that there will be some sand hehehe...
OK....just a tiny little bit of sand!!!!
Not ready yet after my op ... tempting.
This ride has been cancelled as my Bike has been sold!!!!!
Sorry, will do it again as soon as I have a bike again.

Hate to say this but ... Good! I'll be ready for the next one!
After breakfast, if there is enough interest, we can explore some dirty roads on the way home.
