Julie and I just want to
Julie and I just want to thank Johan de Jager, Geoff Russell, Brian and Roz and all others involved in making this a memorable event.
On the way to Barrydale
After two days of lovely off-road rides, we wended our own way home via Tradouw pass and R62. I wanted to show Julie the area, and we stopped and admired the view a lot. We even saw an erica we had never seen before.
Thanks again - and to all those that helped us when we took a tumble too. Especially Andyman for lending Mr. Badger his footpeg. For those that are curious:
About 500m from the end of the dirt on Saturday, I went into a corner a little bit too fast - especially as the corner tightened more and more and the road was slippery as ice. I leaned more and more (the right thing to do), but eventually lost traction and slid out. The bike swivelled on the right pot while grinding to a halt, allowing Julie to slide to the side of the road. I held on (because it's not a fall if you don't lose contact with the bike).
Julie and I are absolutely fine (apart from my ego and bank balance). Mr. Badger needs to replace the right tappet-cover protector and spark cover, and the right pillion footpeg mount. Also, the front fairing mounts have broken.
If anything, Julie's confidence is even higher now that she has seen that a high-speed fall on dirt is relatively harmless more often than not.
