And so it begins.
Early dawn on a desolate beach 1945 errrrrr, oops wait thats not it.
The BMW F800S twin Rotax.
Still a relatively new kid on the block, dont challenge this kid, gonna surprise you for sure.
After a short negotiation with Wayne it was agreed that Freak could take charge of the new demo as soon as she hatches, terms and conditions apply, rules do apply and so forth.
Ok , I have a fresh baby (yellow) and I look her over when Shane brings her up, she is pretty, she is sleek & sexy and for two months she is mine to look after.
I like what I see, its not my first time to get a leg over one of these, but this time it will be different Im sure.
For the first week I ride her lovingly and gently, mostly on the commute for everyone to see, I can feel the stares ,she is a looker, but she just needs a little something.
I stick to the running in procedure diligantly for the first 600 kms ,tootling to work and back and every so often going down the N1 & N7 to Melkbos just to loosen her up a little.
A plan is forming in the Freakdome, I like this bike its great in every aspect. The power is userfriendly and linear , the handling is balanced and superb to say the least ,theres no surprises but it cant be called boring.
A Leo Vince slipon exhaust had been fitted from day one making low and midrange a blast to use from commute to outride.
At this stage we have grown into each, I really like this bike!!

The F800ST has been voted
The F800ST has been voted bike of the year by Topbike magazine and the F800S being essentially thr same platform, I can see why. The newly released F800GS(arrives RSA in March +/-)has the same motor coupled to a chain drive but I sense great things on the horizon.
The F800S and I have now become one ,the "smilomometer" on this bike and the sound emanating from the Leo Vince is awesome.

Sunrise didnt come soon
Sunrise didnt come soon enough this morning, I left in search of the twistiest roads I could find and came to work with a nice detour along the coast, the handling is incredible and although the power isnt on par (its an 800 twin)with 600cc and up screamers, I would highly recommend her to anyone who has always wanted something akin to a superbike, but felt the whole riding experience attributed to such bikes as being to extreme.
A taller KAPAMOTO screen has also been added to the bike to help against Cape Towns winds.

Hey y'all! I'm a friendly newbie to the forum and am planning to modify my F800S for occasional track use. I'd like particulars on the F800S Cup Replica bikes, please. The lower fairing looks like AC Schnitzer models, but what about the tail piece? What performance mods are made on these bikes?
Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig,

Hi Craig,
Welcome to the Forum.
The F800S Cup bikes are only allowed limited modification especially when it comes to performance. Airfilter, performance exhaust and some suspension modification is about the limit of what one may do.
You are correct in saying that the fairing you see on the picture [green and white bike] is from AC Schintcher and the first racebike fairings were modelled along these lines.
The most recent fairings have evolved are locally produced and look much nicer. I shall try and send you a picture asap.
Please bear in mind that race fairings are produced to be functional but when you look closer they are not always perfectly finished off although have to admit the new ones look very good.
As you are not governed by the racing regulations you can fit a device similar to a Powercommander produced by a company called Dimsport. The filters we use are usually sourced from BMC filters. Crash Bobbins are also now locally produced.
For more information you can contact me on marius.burger@bmwdealer.co.za
I realise you are quite far away but I am always willing to help.

Will also find out if the local guys can produce a more finished of product.

Freak - you're rubbing your bad habits off on unsuspecting forum members - "decent" Frank wants a racing fairing!!!

I've ordered the A.C. Schnitzer fairing for my F800S -- but now I'm really interested in the tail cover and rearsets. Are those produced by your local guys?
Many thanks,

Hi Freak
Thanks mate, I feel a Christmas present for myself coming up.....
To Shaded GS: Butlers being 'decent' (as you so nicely put it) is all an act, (as is the nose in the air!) If you have any doubt, ask yourself this: Why is it always the butler who does it in the mystery murders?! :-) Ha Ha
Actually, I am usually the slowest through the twisties and the only time I wheelied a bike was when I went from a 37kw F650GS to a 87kw Suzuki GSX750 (it was un-intentional!)
I just think the fairing looks way cool.
Cheers from Maldives

A small incident where I rode my R1 for about 7ks on the backwheel recently is what Shaded is hinting towards.
The problem came that when I put the wheel down the motor had not been getting enough oil to the top. Needless to say the new motor is en route.

Hi,
I'm new on this site.
Hi,
I'm new on this site. I'm a french (sorry for my poor english) F800S rider for now one year and a half.
I'm actually very interested in the rearsets that are mounted on the F800S cup bikes. I'd like to have more info on it if it's possible.
Are they entirely made localy or are you using aftermarket rearsets that you adapt to the bike ? Is there any way to get some rearsets like that ?
Thanks in advance for your answer
Markus

Well for the crash bobbins I already have those from R&G (as well as the bar end weights with protectors from R&G).
As for the rearsets, I've been searching for a while, but I didn't find anything. So that's why i'm very interested in the ones mounted on F800S cup bikes
