Hope the guy makes it.
PS: Taxi jumped red light, then went up one way before being cornered by police - not sure if driver got away.
Bloody taxi! Hope the police did get the driver, and he is prosecuted fully.
Much more importantly, will say a prayer for the recovery of the rider, and hope he is going to be ok.
Chris
Oh crap! It appears that the guy did not make it. Condolences to the family, friends and significant others. Hope the taxi driver was caught and rots!
My condolences! Sad day!
Kevin did not make it. Just spoke to Michelle(1Kat on WD) his sister in law. Shes on her way to her sister now. He is such a nice guy.
RIP Kevin...we will always hold you close to us.
I am so sorry to hear that.
Hit from behind ... no amount of vigilance can help in those situations. My sincere condolences. Unfortunately it will probably result in a smack on the wrist for one individual and a devastating loss for another family.
Seen the bike regularlly parked outside his house in Claremont....
Very Sad!
RIP
RIP , strength and love to 1 Kat and her family .
THis affects all bikers as many of us commute daily
Oh Hell!
Reminds me of my accident when I was hit from behind by drunken bas...d whist waiting at red robot.
Both of us flew 12m before hitting the tarmac, bike travelled 25m in gear before falling over.
We got 2 days in Medi-Clinic, he was found guilty of drunken driving.
Hell, I'm mad all over again.
We were lucky to tell the tale, he can't....
Sentence this taxi driver to come and visit me.
I have seen that bike quite oftern, the number plate is distinctive. If the taxindriver has been caught and arrested is there no way to find out who he his and his taxi registration, just so that we can keep a watch out for him? I don't suppose he will get much of a sentence if he ever goes to trial.
I read that the police wewre already chasing the taxi when it skipped the traffic light.
So if they do catch this guy, they'll wont be giving him a slap on the wrist.
I've seen him a few times riding his bike on the M5. Really sorry to hear this!!
My thoughts and prayers with his family!!

Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run taxi crash
Argus
March 29, 2010 Edition 2 NIKITA SYLVESTER Staff Reporter
A TAXI
driver who was being chased by a traffic officer smashed into two cars
and knocked a motorcyclist off his bike, killing him, in the city centre
this morning.
City traffic spokeswoman Merle Lourens said the drama
started just after 8am today.
She said a traffic officer had
pursued the taxi driver after seeing the man committing a traffic
offence.
The officer caught up with the taxi on the corner of busy
Long and Riebeek streets. The taxi's passengers disembarked and the
driver again tried to flee.
In doing so, he knocked into a parked
car, pushing the vehicle out of his way, Lourens said. The chase
continued through the city's streets and, near the Adderley Street
fountain, the taxi driver knocked into a motorcyclist, who crashed into
another car.
The taxi driver sped away and, when cornered by traffic
officers nearby, fled the vehicle on foot and jumped into another taxi,
which sped off.
Cape Argus photographer Matthew Jordaan witnessed
the grisly crash.
Jordaan said bystanders had tried to help the
gravely wounded motorcyclist. One man used his tie as a tourniquet
because the injured man's leg was bleeding badly.
Paramedics tried
to resuscitate the motorcyclist, but he was declared dead at about
9.20am, Jordaan said.
Lourens said traffic officers would use the
driver's wallet and ID book, found in the taxi, to track him down.
Jeepers our forums are fast !! Poor 1 Kat read about her brother-in -law's accident on the WD forum ,and when she phoned her sister she had not yet heard the news of her husband's accident . Kevin was only 50 and apparently a wonderful husband and father ( of 3 kids ) . I spent the week-end with 1 Kat and some other wd's on a ride , and she was in such high spirits , what a terrible end to a great week-end for her !
My sincere condolences. My heart goes out to his family.
This loss affects us all, We will pray for the family and friends through this difficult period.R I P.
Call me when you catch the B@s..ard and his buddy who helped him get away. It could have been me as I work right there. I also come to town that time in the morning. This morning I went in quite early because of the workload.
My sincere condolences to the family. I hope you get justice.
My sincere condolences to the family..
Actually saw Kevin on the KTM yesterday in the traffic and wonder about the numberplate.....eisshhhh
Accident happened directly across from the building I work in -
I've been off the bike for almost a year now because of travelling a lot and the roadworks on the N1/N2 - the roads have been so bad I've just felt like it's too risky - this morning was such a stunning morning that I just HAD to ride in (and also, the N1 is just about 'normalised') - I always ride in behind the Naspers building and around the circle and I saw two cop cars and a motorbike blocking off a taxi - when I got into the office, one of my colleagues told me that he was on the balcony and had seen the tail end of the accident i.e. he heard the bang and turned his head to see Kevin going down. I then went down to see what whether he was OK, saw the paramedics at work, and then, unfortunately, also realised that he had passed on.
My heart really goes out to his family and I hope (and pray even though I'm not religious) that they will find the strength and courage to recover from this tragedy. That could have been any one of us who work on the foreshore.
Rest In Peace Kevin - I never knew you but we watched you passing by from the balcony almost every day on that distinctive KTM.
I would like to know if they do catch him because I would be first in the que to oppose his bail and if it would be granted.............
R.I.P, condolences to the family.
Very very sad...!
Very sad indeed.
On behalf of the Club our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
RIP
My sincere condolences to all Kevin's family and friends. My prayers go out to you guys....
Took a tumble two weeks ago due to a Taxi making an illegal u-turn. Took two weeks out of my Comrades training and I'm still not sure if I'll be ready for Oceans this weekend. I count myself lucky....
When will motorists and taxi drivers ever respect us 2-wheelers, cycles or bikes.....
