BMW MCC : Off road weekend : Gifberge : 5th - 6th June
Due to the cancellation of our West Coast Tour I have tentatively booked us the Waterval Resort www.watervalresort.co.za situated in the Gifberg Mountains just outside Vanrhynsdorp.
This lovely resort with it's beautiful Waterfall and tame sheep has 15 cottages that sleep 4 people each (open plan) at a cost of only R250.00 for 4 people sharing. Or if you want some privacy R250.00 per couple.
Camping is also an option at R50 per tent plus R10 PP.
Single guys/girls can share a chalet. (You know what I mean)
Although the resort is self catering they are prepared to arrange a braai for us. I will confirm this cost in due course once I see the responses.
Our ride will depart from CT early on Saturday morning heading via Citrusdal to Vanrhynsdorp for an early lunch. After lunch we will ride the Gifberg Circular Route arriving at Waterval in the late afternoon.
On Sunday we will depart after a self catering breakfast and make our way towards Niewoudtville then from there to Clanwilliam and on home.
Total trip distance around 700-750kms.
You will need to bring your own bedding (sleeping bag), drinks, snacks & breakfast.
OBS, Gluhwein and warm clothes will be the order of the day/night.
I have not made a decision yet on the back up vehicle but if we take it it will add about R100 PP to the trip depending on numbers.
I suggest that this route would not suite rank beginners but if you have done the Cederberg Oasis ride you should be fine!!
Interested?
Let me know on russell@aroma.co.za
Including your accommodation option.

Please put my name down for a cottage to share. I will share with anyone (male/female) but must warn that I do snore.

Nee ou Leon, die keer moet jy die Booze saamdra. Tyd om wiskey to begin drink.
Will 2L old brown be enough for me for Saturday night. I will believe it gets quite cold there.
If it is colder than Oasis then I will need to consider bringing 4L of the "soetes".

keen to go if i can make arrangements for my dogs!
You will all really enjoy the gifberge,
I deliberately left the name gifberge out of my post (WHO PUT THE NAME IN MY SUBJECT!!!!!!!!!!) (SOMEONE WITH MODERATOR RIGHTS)
So as not to put anyone off.
This is on the list of must-do's.
We did on one day what you will do in two and group discipline is very different to three bike enduro style disciplines so don't worry about speed.
Please take lots of photos, watch out for sheep, you ride through farmland and so are their guests in their territory. Which means you look for them, not them for you.
Guilty as charged Andy!!
Trip is now full.....................weather is looking great!!!
Morning all,
Firstly I have had a call from Waterval Resort telling me that they are a pillow and pillow case short. If you inadvertently packed it with your goodies please let me know as I will have to pay for it's replacement!!
Thanks for all the call's, SMS's & e mails regarding the weekend I really appreciate each and every one of them and they all go a long way to remind me why I put these trips together.
A special thanks to Heidi for driving the back up vehicle it is really appreciated.
To all the beginners (real beginners) I hope that you learnt another few things about off road riding and also how to stretch your boundaries.
To all the lady riders and the two lady pillion riders a special word of thanks for joining us and I hope you had a great time.
To Pete for leading the "advanced" group on a route he had never ridden before I salute you.
To the "sedate" group I hope I sort of passed the test of leading you while I pushed my own boundaries of learning to take things easy and to stop often.
I look forward to the Trip reports from both groups as well as lots of pics.
To all the new "property" owners I wish you luck with your new "farming" ventures.
Then finally to all the non Club Members I hope you really enjoyed our band of "Brothers" and would like to urge you to join the Club (which you can do online)and thereby contribute towards the putting together of all these "outings"!
Let me not forget to thank Marc Erntzen for very generously offering to sponsor a "complete" medical kit for our Club rides. Mark on behalf of our Club we thank you sincerely for this fantastic gesture. May we never have to use it!
Now let me get to work on the next ride.
Fond regards to you all.
Geoff.
Great ride Geoff, thanks to you and Peter O'
Was lekka bumping into you folks, looks like you had fun
Thanks Geoff for organising a great weekend! And thanks to Pete (and Arno) for leading the ride! It was great to get dirty again and ride with new and old friends (and some strange guy on a KTM!
)
Another fine place the club took me on. A bit sore this morning but I can say that I have survived a Geoff trip.
And yes Geoff can do 80Km/h and less on gravel. I know some of you will not believe this but it is true. These rumours that Geoff is a Valentino Rossi on gravel is unfounded. He waited for us regular. Allowed us to look at some scenery. Even allowed us to have a snack time in the middle of nowhere.
Thank you Geoff for the lekker trip.
Thanks Geoff for an awesome weekend.
Good weather (besides the little bit of mist at the start), good roads (mostly) and great company. What more could one ask for?
Mostly enjoyable ..... ok, so the few "scary moments" were also quite fun in retrospect!!
Who said Geoff doesn't stop?
Plus a few more unscheduled stops in and around the sand monster. All-in-all, plently of stops!
Big thanks also to Johan and Tracey for patiently riding sweeper on both days for the sedate group (apologies for the poor handsignals at times).
Thanks Tony for the nice pictures! If someone else has taken pictures, please share them here or give us your Flikr/Picasa link so we can all enjoy them. I'm especially thinking of the guy that was taking pics on top of Kobeepas(?) as we were riding up, beginner's group.
