BMWMCC Cape GS ride to the Buffelspoort near Ladismith 10-11 December - Thanks for an awesome weekend.
We are planning an overnight ride to the Buffelspoort Campsites near Ladismith for the weekend of 10 - 11 December 2011. Warren and Natalie Ellwood will be your hosts for this weekend trip to one the seven fantastic poorts that cut through the Swartberg Mountain Range. This off road ride will suit riders of all levels.
Our destination is the farm Van Zyl’s Damme belonging to the Nel family. The campsite, known as the Buffelspoort Campsite lies very close to the southern end of the famous Buffelspoort and offers shaded and grassed camping areas with full ablutions and hot showers. As you can see, camping accommodation only this time round.
And once again, we will need to be self sufficient food wise for this weekend, we will lunch somewhere out in the Klein Karoo on Saturday and will need to prepare our own supper on Saturday night at the farm. Rudy and Marianne will however provide us with “koffee en beskuit” on Sunday morning and we should be in Touwsriver for a brunch later in the morning.
Rudy will also make available an honesty bar for us on Saturday afternoon and evening.
The idea is to be at the Buffelspoort fairly early on Saturday so there is time to swim and explore a little. Sunday will see us taking a longer route home along some new dirt roads I have found that need exploring.
The ride will be accompanied by a back up vehicle and trailer as usual for peace of mind and to carry your goodies if need be.
Costs : R220.00 per person which includes your camping accommodation, breakfast and a contribution towards the running costs of our back up vehicle and crew.
And as this is the last trip for 2011, if you have a mate that rides a KTM, or Kawasaki, or….., invite him along, perhaps we’ll get him to ask Santa for a BMW for Xmas.
Interested in joining us? Please post to this thread or drop me a mail at warrene@savino.co.za so I know who you are and I will be in contact. We will need to limit this ride to around 20 folks max.

You can put my mothers name on aswell, she will be going by bike and will there be space in the backup for my dad so that he can at least en the year off with the club. He says then the two mank-been mense can be there aswell.
Please let know if it is posible.

This time you will need everything you brought last time, except the kettle, leave the kettle at home.

Firstly, I am very thankful that despite most of the weather websites getting it altogether wrong again, we only got about 20 drops of rain. I really didn’t feel like doing the mud run again and besides the wind being a little strong in places, the rest of the ride was fine weather wise.
So I just want to say thank you to all those that joined us for the weekend, I really hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. The roads were for the most part in decent condition, there was awesome scenery we could actually see this time, the Buffelspoort campsite is always a stunning location to visit, the Buffels River was in full flood, making for a lekker swim and we had a half decent party on Saturday night, which some folks enjoyed until much later than others, but it was a lot of fun. Getting there nice and early also meant we all had enough time to relax a bit.
Then……. , Jackie ensured we will forever remember the fellow that dared to put a KTM tent up in a BMW campsite, Hein Carstens found out the hard way that the electric fence works, Derrick demonstrated the way a real biker should cook his meat (and his tekkies), and Rudy provided some clear liquid that made our usual Pippakou seem like cool drink causing some deep breaths during our evening fun. Those were I think the highlights.
Thanks to Pam (driving) and Trevor (providing) for the back up vehicle, as usual most appreciated. Thanks also to Leon Lee for sweeping again and all your help with the broken tyre on the Jeep. Sorry you were banished to camp 2 again, but it seems as if you will be having more company in the future.
There were quite a few new faces on this trip as well, and I certainly hope that we will see you guys more often in the future.
So that’s it, all home safe so until next time, look after yourselves.
Some photo’s please.
Cheers
Warren
P.s I already have the first three weekend rides planned for next year. Found some really fantastic places and there is a night ride planned. Keep your eyes peeled for them.
Yet another fantastic weekend away.
The ride back on Sunday was awesome. The wind and the road conditions really took its toll - I was absolutely shattered by the time I got home. Really need to get fit in 2012.
Thanks to all for a very entertaining Saturday evening
Thanks to all Buffelspoorters for a most enjoyable trip. Special thanks to Warren (and Natalie) for arranging it. Good choice of roads, pleasant venue and relaxed riding
Lunch stop.
Nature at its best, near the camp site
Pre-strafdop speech
Strafdoppe!
Leaving Buffelspoort

It was a long dusty road
Last stop .... Montagu next stop Buffelspoort
quick lunch stop
a little stretching after lunch.... well done Tony :)
Lekker rustig..... after a dusty ride
tents all ready for when they fall down later
A well earned swim... that tyre changing was hard work!
the water was soooo cool!
The Brave
There was another pic after this one.... better it be sensored first...LOL
Derrick started the evening with a "Rain Dance"! Isn't he such a special man?
Strafdop! He put all his gear in the back up!!
Strafdop! Not fair... I couldn't prevent the tyre puncture!! ;)
Strafdop! ....Just for being new! Eish .. something wrong with this!!
This was the calm before the storm..
the early birds.... others were still trying to open their eyes
Hein still trying to find his feet after a hectic night.....
biker warmups
the Harley warmup.....
the KTM warmup......
Seriously.... you all seem to enjoy the KTM warmup the most! Richard, whats up with your co-ordination??
I know the road was long but really,.... Grand Canyon?
Hein seemed to be doing okay especially after being the last man left standing the night before :)
Looks like quite a discussion taking place
A big thanx to Warren, Nats, Pam, Leon and everyone that came along, had a blast.
Thank you so much for having me with, I really enjoy driving for you and hope that I can do the same in the new year.
Sorry about ending the pictures there but driving down Baines Kloof was very tricky with a wide trailer.
Have a lovely Christmas everyone and be safe over this festive season!!
xx
Hein Carstens.
Thanks to all for a brilliant trip - special thanks to Warren/Nat/Pam and Trevor for the vehicle - I came back super relaxed from the outing (and in time to check my guests in!), and with a huge grin on my face!
Have made a list of what I forgot (hat/sunscreen/RED bloody WINE; the list goes on!), and am really looking forward to trips in 2012, particulary camping trips, since I are a happi-camper!
thanks all
Thank you so much Warren and Natalie, for organising such a fantastic weekend away!!
Being my first club ride, and being a newbie to riding, I wasn't quite sure what to expect...
I am really impressed with the comradarie and support within the club, and the trip was just planned so incredibly well!
The roads were good, the scenery was beautiful, the people were fantastic, and the humor within within the group was great! What a perfect way to end off the year!
Also a big thanks to Trevor for your vehicle, Pam for driving it, and to Leon for being sweeper.
Have a great Christmas everyone!
Eerstens
Aha "One of the tyres is deflating and you should attend to it immediately" of so iets.
"The Jack is under the carpet behind the left rear seat" verkondig die boekie.
No Bum crack ma! just hottashel.
Na 'n lekker aand en slaap in my tentjie (No KTM for me
