How about the above as a day......arrive +- 8/8.30 and have lectures, various groups....fast,  med, slow, ladies, confused...etc.

This will give plenty of time to both ride and learn by trying different lines, braking earlier/later etc. as well as time to socialize..... and finish the day with a braai...a really fun day in the spirit of all the passes.

If we are to do this we need to plan now, as later the track will be fully booked until next year!!!

Post on this thread to give the club an indication of interest.

Much as the 2 hr sessions are great and have upped my safety on the road, I do enjoy the social, this would have both.

Let's make it happen!

If it is on a Saturday or Sunday I will be there. Track riding is the best way to improve your technique and general road safety levels.

How about an offroad section also

A while ago I attended a 'short-course' day, that had a section of off-road as part of the track.  It was an introductory motard day, with a mixture of scramblers and motard bikes of all makes.  What made it nice was:

  1. Entry fee of R15 for the day (nope, no zeros forgotten in that number).
  2. Adventure bikes allowed, as well at pitbikes for youngsters.
  3. Short course on tar only had deviations in the main straights with haybales - so there was more cornering and less straight and fast riding.
  4. The mixed course covered the short course on the track, then turned off into a motoX track with some berms, hoops and jumps - this was Mr.Badger's favourite.
  5. I was lucky to bump into Lourens who was helping out - he gave me some brilliant coaching and pointers.

Imagine:

  • the scope for a broad range of enthusiasts, both tar and dirt and combination riders,
  • the opportunities for women and youngsters on smaller bikes,
  • a smaller track being more visible to all and
  • more conducive to training and feedback.

If we have a strong club contingent, and provide training and instruction, yet allow all brands and non-members to attend, I bet we will win some converts and open some eyes.

Personally, I don't feel as though I can learn much more from the track as it stands - I've been to at least 4 track sessions and would really only be interested in something with some offroad also.

Neil, you need to be

Neil, you need to be commended for once again initiating an event of this nature. Yes Jean & I will certainly attend and despite my riding years am sure that I can still learn (maybe) something. it's about the social aspect as well also known as the destress period. Practice makes perfect.

Ignore opinions, heed facts.

Cheesy I am certain you will

Cheesy I am certain you will learn something, with your age you have forgotten so much, you again have space to learn!Smile

I certainly hope it happens, if enough people show an interest ....I'm sure it will.

I picture it not as a race day, or a 'U vil learn' day, but rather as a 'Celebrate your Bike' day.

A quiet, fun day.

I really would like to see this as an annual club event.

Neil, maybe you shouldnt pay

Neil, maybe you shouldnt pay too much attention to my previous comment about all the corners. I'm a creature of comfort:  I also dislike parrallel parking, 3 point turns, pulling away at an incline,  ....  anything that requires you to do more that stop and climb out of off your vehicle ...

If you can't beat them...

If Erica hates corners then the only way around it is to have more of them until she gets over her fears!  Anybody can go fast in a straight line, as we all know...

Fun day

Count us in.  (Wayne & Elmarie).  We love the track days and I have learnt a lot at every single one of them.  Wayne grows horns on the track, but I actually learn!

It Depends

Very knobbly tyres are not allowed.  However, if you have Heidenau K60s then they are fine - Mr.Badger has done a few track days wearing them.

That is another benefit of the short course day with mixed track - they allowed knobblies, because speeds were lower and flying knobs were less likely to cause harm.

P Phred I am certain your parts would make it in time, at this stage it is more to get a show of hands, as the past few 2hr training sessions were poorly supported, leading to hesitancy in organising into the future, however unless we move on this, we may not be able to get time on the track.

Late December 09 we were given no really good options in the months Jan to April 2010 for the ladies.

I really hope to see a lot of support from the road folks.
