Yes

But then, tar is just very hard gravel with no sandy patches Wink - the thing is that road along the coast between Kleinmond and Gordon's Bay is awesome...

Ducati Down

Sorry to eport this but me and my Mrs were very upset to have come across the

tragic scene in the Bettys Bay camp site area.

We came across the accident on the way back from our breakfast but I did not stop as there was a duvet cover over the rider lying in the road.

I believe it was a local rider from that area on a Ducati 996/

Apparently a car came out of or turned off at the camp site area.

I always take it very easy through that section due to the very poor visibilty as one has no way of seeing vehicles coming out of the camp site due too many trees etc......

RIP

Sad, but there are lessons to learn

We were stopped to wait for oncoming traffic to pass, and noticed the skidmark of a single tyre (i.e. bike), then red marks from the fairing, then we could not see further past the emergency vehicles.

My comment to Julie was that:

  1. The skidmarks were very close to the left (inside) of the curve - which is fine for a racing line, but dangerous on the open road, because you cannot see as far around the bend as when you are on the outside (RHS) of the left curve.  This is a lesson Max tries to teach.
  2. The bike went down before hitting the car.  While the fall might not have been possible to avoid (leaning into the corner, or panic braking), it is useful to remember that bikes stop best when their rubber is on the road.  Potentially, in a T-bone, being upright might allow you to be catapulted over the car which is probably safer than doing a 120km/hr to zero against the car tyre.  That said, a low road-bike T-boning a car can result in the rider killing himself and the occupants of the car by going through the side window.

At the risk of stating the obvious once again - the road is not a track, it is a deathtrap if you treat it like one.

Still - RIP and condolences to those you leave behind.
