Hi all,

After the weekend’s great ride to Greyton, let’s add another Tar ride, this time to Tulbach.

Ride Details
 Destination:
Things i Love - Tulbach
 Meal: Breakfast
 Ride Cpt: John Geldenhuys (082 938 2525)

As this is summer, and the sun does make its presence felt earlier, if everyone who will be joining could be at the meeting spot and ready to depart by 07h30am.

The Venue:

Things I love restaurant in Tulbach not only caters for those who are looking for food that tantalises the taste buds but it also sports a deli, wine shop and a gift shop filled with little treasures.
Tulbach, originally founded in 1804 has had a rough old time, in 1822 the town was almost completely destroyed in a storm and again in 1969 when an earthquake struck the town. To date Tulbach boosts the largest number of Cape Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian monuments in a one street, Church Street, in the entire South Africa.

The Menu:

On the breakfast table we have: Bacon, sausage, egg, tomatoes, mushrooms and your choice of toasted ciabatta, croissant or bagel and coffee.
The cost is R60 (incl service charge)

The Route:

The ride out to Tulbach will see us meandering through the Wellington wine lands before we ride over one of South Africa’s most historic passes, Bain’s Kloof Pass. Bain’s Kloof Pass is immensely beautiful, but don’t let its beauty distract you from safely navigating the pass! This will be stressed again prior to departure.
Depending on numbers, we will be stopping for a few pictures from the pass that Bain himself described as “Repulsive and Savagely Grand”. Moving along, we will travel through Wolseley and onto Tulbach.

Coming back, for those wanting to get home straight can do so via the R44. Others may join me, returning via Riebeeck Kasteel / Malmesberry and coming in via Blouberg Beach.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Weekend Breakfast Ride Reminder

Hi All,

just a reminder for the weekends breakfast ride to Tulbach.

Meeting location is at the Engen Garage on Plattekloof and Gert van Rooyen.
Please be ready to depart at 7h30am, roughly!

For first timers, here is an extract from the website FAQ

Your first ride with the Club
Questions first-timers might have before coming out on a ride with us
The club always rides on the road in '''staggered formation'''. The ride captain rides in front with a bright yellow bib, close to the RHS of the lane. At a following distance of 1 second, the next rider rides in the same lane, but close to the LHS so that he is not directly in line with the rider in front. Then the pattern continues, with each rider 2 seconds behind the rider in the same path as them, but only one second behind the rider in the other path. We do this so that each rider has enough stopping distance in front of them, and no bike to the side so that they can swerve when necessary. And the whole group does not become too spread out. The rider at the back often also wears a bib so that the ride captain can see that the whole group is together. When we enter a pass, the bikes spread out a bit so that they can use the whole width of the road to negotiate turns. Nobody overtakes the ride captain.

Weather wise, we are looking at a very pleasant day for riding!
See you there

John
