Breakfast Run Houwhoek 13 Jan 08
This was a clubride and the captain of the day was Ian.
We all met at the Engen Plattekloof and took off at 8:15. The plan was to go straight to the venue at Houwhoek for breakfast and then from there back towards town.
It was most certainly an AMAZING turn up, a lot of pillions as well, riding right at the back it was an awesome picture viewing this long string of BMW motorbikes from behind on the way to Grabouw.
After breakfast 10 bikes was going to do some off roading, we headed back towards Grabouw and took the "The Valley" turn off, this is a tar road that becomes gravel over the mountain and comes out right opposite the Arabella near Kleinmond. From here Russ decided to pick up the pace a bit on his own, then it was some more gravel towards Caledon. Here we got a bit wet but not too much...
We joined back on the N2 and went to Dassiesfontein where we bought some cheese and other "farm goodies"; after this to Botrivier and from there we took the gravel road through Van Zyl's Pass towards Theewaterskloof dam, an amazing little gravel road - something I recommend you do !!! When we got to Theewaterskloof dam I informed everyone that from now on it is everyman for himself. Wayne (Gwaai) turned towards the N2 and from there into town towards home and the rest of us decided that we liked riding together so much that we all went over the pass towards Franschoek - as we came over the top of the pass - "clear skies" a beautifull day in Franschoek !!
13pm And we were in Franschoek, no casualties and an EXCELENT bunch of people on the whole ride on the day with 1 goal in mind - to enjoy their ride and to represent the club with their friends.
I did not have my camera with me and therefore do not have any pictures - can ALL of you that have some pictures PLEASE post some here for us all to see?? So far I have only received off road pics....

DanieJ, Cloud, Corne - always a pleasure !!
I suggest that you practise what you have learned - I am still a baby in this game and all I know I have been tought by some very skillfull riders in the club...also get to training days as much as you can.
Cloud - the glasses is Adidas and you can buy them from any optometrist - the inserts is actually my prescription that fits into the sunglasses - I have a mate that took care off me on this matter....
Corne - thnx for the trip and your pictures.
Also thnx NEIL for your help !!!

No Johan,
I couldn't make it so early. But we met you guys in the valley. Didn't you see us ( 1200 GSA and a 1200 GS ), both with pillions.
Weather was lovely and cool.
We did afterwards the Van der Stel Pass, you must go there, beautiful scenery !!

Thanks for great reading, but to my opinion your comments on Van Zyl's Pass was not necessary. I enjoy the forum a lot.

There is a very special story behind the Van Zyl's Pass.

Attached is the Garmin Track file of the route we followed. Neil and I ended up in Melkbos for lunch but the run was officially over in Franschoek.
It's embedded in a Word document. Just open the Word document, double click on the object in Word and your Garmin software will open it.
Nope that doesn't work either.
Can anyone help? I can't get this file uploaded. It tells me I've exceded 1Mb but it's only 64Kb big!
Ideally I want to post the .gdb file - I've done it once before but I cannot get it right now.
Cheers
Pete

I enjoyed the off-road ride after breakfast,I really think that this is a wonderful way to introduce people to off- road riding,it makes for a nice combination and unites the tar and dirt guys and ladies.
Thanks to all.

You cannot attach arbitrary files in 'comments', only in the original article. In comments, you can only insert images. Perhaps you should email the file to JdJ and he can attach it to the top of this post (the original article).
.gdb files are attachable - if you did it before it will work again.
regards
Charles

Thanks Olaf. Glad you replied. I feel uncomfortable with the use of our Heavenly Father's name like that. It is your right to speak as you wish, but I felt it important to voice my uneasiness with it. Thanks again for good reading on all topics.

Are you trying to attach it to a comment or to the original post at the top? What error message are you getting?
Otherwise, email it to me and I will see what gives.

So exactly how did it fail then? What was the error message? What did you do exactly?

Edit my post (original) go to file attachment, pick the file and the error message that comes up is that only certain files with extensions (then iot gives me a list of these extensions) can be added.
