I finished scouting the orange routes for the CABC over the weekend - just a taster for those who are going ....

The accommodation is superb and the rides are great; I got stung by a bee, chased by an ostrich, had to avoid a herd of agressive wildebees ... and can they move!!!!  I overtook a few tortoises and generally had a great time.  Pity I was alone (with my own dedicated backup vehicle) because there was some really good riding if you like exploring!

For those doing the Orange routes, it's not difficult and anyone doing Orange for the fist time will definitely manage.  We'll be riding slow to take in the scenery (and we've been asked to keep it slow by the farmers) ... definitely not for beginners but of all the routes Orange is the most scenic.  We got permission to ride on a farmer's land where very few people will ever get to go.  There's a good chance of seeing giraffe, wildebees (keep out of their way!), springbok, kudu and amazing scenery.

If you're doing the RED ROUTE ... you're not going to see too much scenery even though it's all around ... you are going to CONCENTRATE!  Fit knobblies or don't even bother to attempt it.

I'm leaving on Thursday afternoon/evening by car with my bike on the trailer to save tyres and carry some kit that will be needed for the weekend.  If anyone wants me to take gear up for them, let me know - you'll have to get it to me by Wed ... first come first served.  (Rhian and Caron have already booked space, but I suppose that's just for coffee and vegetarian junk and probably a box of spare clutch levers, so it shouldn't take up all the space in my car).

GPS tracks will be available

GPS tracks will be available after the ride.  We don't want the farmers being hassled by explorers, they're being accommodating enough just letting us use their land at all bearing in mind the volume of bikes already that are going to be disturbing their animals.

For the green route, there are lunch stops at pre-booked venues.  Orange route will have a lunch stop in the veld and red route ... you guys will need water more than food!

Orange and Green take R40 for lunch and a cooldrink, or take your own food and drinks.  Red, I'm afraid it's fend for yourself, there's little opportunity for arranging refreshments en route.

BTW Hennie is just covering costs and anything extra goes to a local school.  The school kids will be putting on a show for us to say thanks, I think on Saturday.

Hey Pete

As far as I know the red route also has lunch stops for R40. Both days the stop is done just before returning to camp. I don't think most of the guys will want to ride the extreme stuff on a full tummy.
