So this weekend I got to push my bike beyond its limits as well as my own, what a brilliant time!!!!

The red route is not for every one, it will challenge every bit of your riding skill!!! I managed to destroy a knobbly in 200km of scouting, the terrain is loose with loads of very steep technical climbs and decents. I would say last years red route was slightly more manageable than this years one, big bikes will have loads of traction problems and riders will need to know what they doing to keep their momentum up on the twisty steep climbs.

If it sounds like I'm trying to scare you off.... well, I am.

If you do manage to get up the mountains you will be treated to some of the most amazing views of the Swartberg and surrounding valley. It is very likely that you will need to help your fellow red route riders (know to be nuts) to get up the mountain, so teamwork will be essential on some sections. I had Generaal along on his 650 and if it where not for him I would probably never maid it up certain sections, I even had to help him once or twice.

The guys who make it up and down will definitely feel a great sense of accomplishment and will have great stories to tell around the fire in the evenings.

Please carefully consider the red route, it is very easy to damage your bike and/or yourself. Absolute break control is needed for the VERY VERY loose decents. On the climbs you will find very loose switchbacks with loads of rocks to avoid. I had my hands full on more than one occasion. I suffered extreme arm pump by the end of the first days scout witch made it almost impossible to go up the last bit of the second days route.

I do believe that Generaal is feeling as stiff as myself and glad to have a few days break before we take the intrepid few up the mountain.

Must for the red route:

Knobblies!!!!

Sump guard!!!

Hand guards

Full rider kit, preferably body armour and MX boots

Camel back!!!!

Teamwork

Big B@lls. LOL

Things not to bring to the red route:

Ego

Babelas

Alcohol (expect us to take it very easy on Thursday and Friday night)

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the best riders in the country tackle the tracks we have laid out.

HI Daniel, Would Heidenau

HI Daniel,

Would Heidenau tyres be sufficient? What is the todal distance for the red and how many hours should we set aside for "not too fast" riding?

Regards
