Cape Town F650 Mechanic, general questions
Hi guys!
I just want to know, who will you recommend to work on my Dakar? Its out of warrantee, and I don't always have the time to do work myself. I am based in the Western Cape close to Brackenfell.
Also, where do I buy spares other than the dealers. I am talking things like brake pads, chain and sprocket, wear items like these.
And then while I am busy asking questions, how long can I expect my clutch to last? I am close 30 000km now, and it seem like it starts to slip if I only touch the clutch lever. Or am I just imagining it? Surely it must have a bit of a longer life than 30 000km, seeing that it is running in oil? Adjustment maybe?
Will appreciate any inputs!
Regards!
Pieter

brake pads, sprockets, chains, etc. you can get at Trac Mac
Hi Pieter,
Hy is in 12 Welgemeend Straat, Kleinbosch in Plattekloof.
Sy kontak nommers is : 083 3023771 of 021 5594884
Eugene
Dankie vir die inligting!!
I can second Alf warwick. He is ex Donford BMW workshop manager and knows his way around Beemers (or any bike for that matter). He works from home these days. He has worked on both my bike and my FIL's bike a few times.
Trac-Mac seems to be the place to go for spares. Their prices are good and the are well stocked. Service is good too.
Hi OubaasPieter,
Hy is ex Donford soos Christian se hierbo.
groete
I would like to commend this guy, I have just collected my bike which has been thoroughly serviced with BMW brake pads and Oil Filter. All other oil of highest standard, everyone overhauled and checked, brake fluid pots cleaned out and fluid replaced. Total R1700.00 all inclusive.
I would eat anything off his garage floor its so clean and he only works on one bike a day. he has been doing this for 40 years.
He comes highly highly recommended.
thanx Eugene for the contact.
Hi, Has anyone ever had this problem on there 2008 F65)gs single cylinder, dual spark. Generally my bike goes really well with no problems. Then one day out of the blue i'll go for a ride and every time I stop somewhere the bike wont idle. This happens when the bike if hot or cold, riding short or long distances. For a month or 2 nothing will happen the suddenly the bike wont idle, this will go on for a day or even a month and then also just disappears again. Any advice. Regards Alan
Check the sensor on the air intake. It does not have very strong clips and tend to shake loose. I eventually duct-taped it to keep it in place on my Dakar.
