ECO WOW what a trip.
3000Km and 6 days later. WOW what a trip.
Willem Smith and I left Hamman Motorrad on Wednesday 5th October at 07H00 and arrived in Hanover at 17H00.
We were booked in at Ashtree Guest house in Hanover for the night.
Breakfast at 07H00 and back on the road at 08H00 again to Clocolan.
BMW ECO…what a great event, well organised and very well attended with six hundred motorcycles and about seven hundred and twenty people. Great food and great people.
Friday morning up early again, headed to the Katse Dam in Lesotho, 183Km from Clocolan. The “fun” starts approximately 80Km from the dam…after entering the boom gate, it’s the start of negotiating one hundred and thirty corners before you reach the dam.
The corners are not the only hazard, with many local inhabitants and animals’ criss-crossing the road, including pigs and donkeys, walking in the road as if it were an open field. Cattle also feed on the steep slopes of the mountainside.
Although the road is not in bad condition, the presence of rocks in the road is another reason not to lose concentration.
Once you get to the dam you find it was worth the ride as it really is a feat of engineering.
Lots of place to take photo’s and if you take the time to look as you ride you might even find some frozen waterfalls along the road.
When you stop at the lookout point you look out over rolling mountains and the most beautiful scenery.
This is a trip that every person should take at least once in their lifetime.
I concur. This was a great event.
