My wife and I have just received notification that we "found" one of those hidden camera things. Right next to the Clan William Dam in the 80 zone, we were apparently doing 106kph. R300.00 each is our prize.Tongue out

As we were riding in a fairly impressive convoy and were somewhere in the middle of said convoy, if you were there, I'd keep an eye on that post box. Sealed You may have also won a prize.

I wasn't in the convoy ... I

I wasn't in the convoy ... I was trying to catch up at just slightly above warp speed ... fortunately my number plate is melted because the cops told me to take my small (perfectly readable) one off and put the big SABS one on in it's place.  Unfortunately the big one is an exhaust deflector, so hopefully no fashion shots of my bike Innocent

I also found the prize at

I also found the prize at 105km/h the value of my prize is R200!

I thought these guys were not allowed to conceal themselves, how come none of us spotted the actual camera we are being paid a lot of money for finding?  or is that the other way round?Laughing

Was I playing catchup to the leader of this convoy or was the whole convoy exceeding the speed limit?

Or were we all doing the legal speed and the lazer needs calibration (here's hoping!)?

How do we go about checking if the lazer camera has been calibrated by SABS in the last 28 days?  I think that is what is supposed to happen, and they should have a certificate to prove it?!Undecided

3rd prize

seems I only made 3rd prize - R150 - for doing 99.0km in the 80km zone...

So so far:

Warren: R300

Natalie: R300

Rhian: R200

Nolene: R200

Chris: R150

So, in say the 30-60 seconds that the convoy passed thru', the Cedaberg Traffic Department made R1150!

I think we need to take another ride, same route down the N7, Kilometer 93 'Kweekkraal' Clanwilliam, and then, as a group, just stop short of the camera (which faces away from the direction of travel, and go for a group pee. Or maybe a d*mp.

Bl@@dy hidden cameras!

I am the best so far - was

I am the best so far - was doing 111km/h = R400

I did see them but sure they turned the camera around to take my number plate from the back. I was doing 120km/h when I saw them and slowed down to 70 km/h in 1.5 seconds. Maybe one of their buddies was sitting behind a bush and they can then prove that they where visible.

They sat by one of those picnic areas on the side of the road.

From now onwards I will use a bit of grease and mud to make sure my number plate a bit more "visible" for them. I hope they can read numbers below mud.

Well I am busy writing a love letter to the magristrate begging for some sympathy. Maybe bring it down to R200

Why dont you invest in a Garmin that will  bleep and indicate on the screen when you drive into a radar trap. These can be updated every year with a R10 CD or, I'm told, free on the internet.

You dont have to buy a special  expensive motorcyle GPS. You can mount any GPS with a Ram mount .(Google: Ram Mount) Even your touch screen will work with an rain protected mounting. Your lighter socket can be mounted with heavy duty Velcro or double sided tape so you dont have to drill  holes in your bike.

Sure it wont tell you where the speedkop-in-die-bos-agter-die-boom speed traps are but at least most of those fines as discribed above could have been avoided.

It seems to have worked for me. In fact, I think that I may have paid for my Nuvi 710 in speed trap savings. At least that's what I tell my wife...

They don't turn the camera around

Same for me, R200 for 103

Same for me, R200 for 103 km/h, same spot.  Haven't been able to pay it online via Standard Bank, or payfine.co.za or even at Checkers although it supposed to be possible.  Does it just take time to be in the system?

On a lighter note but not off

On a lighter note but not off topic :

I arrive home to a very smug wife who tells me I have a fine for R200 on my bike....................I was not sure how she worked this out as the fine was addressed to me and it was for her bike (her bike is in my name) and I had already opened it.

Not so I say! It is for you!

No it is not it is addressed to you she says. Yes it is but who is in the picture, you my Dear not me!

Kark she says it is you.

Since when has a Dakar looked like an Adventure from the back? Silence!

New total - R1950

Impressive rear picture, a little out of focus and not worth R200 for 101Km/h!!!, same place same time 15H01. I agree with Leon, some creative "camo" will defintely be in order for the next trip.

My photo is of my best view, my rear view that is! Smile  Not from the front as in Charles' case.

How come the esteemed leader of our mottly crew has not had his very own prize?

Ha ha ha

The same camera, the same place, the same day.  Lucky they didn't stop me 'cos I was high as a kite on painkillers and muscle-relaxant and 'play' to stay awake.  A hundred ronts.  I can't believe that old bakkie could even go that fast.

FINE thank you!

We seem only to be totalling the fines paid by club members.

Perhaps we need an award for the rider who got the most value for money. ie the fastest ride at the lowest fine...

...and of course, the least value for money...

Eish.....Let me remind you

Eish.....

Let me remind you that I had to leave the group to go back and fix a rear punture on the F800GS, let me assure you that in my attempt to catch up with the group I stayed within the speed limit for VERY little time if any....I am not looking forward to my "love letter"...and is sure it will be a "biggy"

fines

To all that have received the fines from the traffic Dept have an look in the photo, where the cross-hairs point to, it needs to on the number plate or just above it,(I hope i have this part right) to prove that it was taken by somebody at the camera,  otherwise the fine cannot be lawfull. my uneducated 2 cents worth.

Paying your fine

If anyone is interested in paying their fine from the Cederberg Traffic Department via internet banking, the details are as follows:

Cederberg Municipality, Account no: 405 357 8397, Branch code: 31609, Ref no.:  use you notice no. on your fine.

still not available online

Little update, many weeks have passed now and:

1) Still can't pay with the "pay fines" from the Internet banking from Standard Bank, they can't find the notice number.

2) The people at Checkers have no idea how to process the fine so they won't take my money.  There need some kind of barcode to process it and there aren't any on my fine.

3) The fine doesn't appear on payfine.co.za or viewfines.net

Is the fine legit or not?  If their IT system doesn't even post the fines to Standard Bank online like they should, how are they keeping track of the payment?  I willing to pay, but I do want my payment to be associated with MY fine!  This whole system looks poorly implemented.  5 weeks after the fine was issued and it's still not in the system.

Wait for the summons then

Wait for the summons then worry.

I can not pay either.

Half price

Received "Notice before summons in criminal case" a few days ago, fine payable now R100 (was R200).

This I take it was after they received a letter from me. 'Friends' who read my draft letter suggested that they would probably double my fine after reading it! Laughing

Question 1: Do you still have an option to pay if you receive the summons?

Question 2: How do you find out if the Laser which was used for the trapping has been calibrated correctly?
