Hi Everybody
Hi Everybody.
I'm Turtle.
I'm bikeless for now. If all goes well I wil have a bike by the end of the month. Still not sure what though.
I have to pick between the R1200 GS A or the K1200S. I have had the pleasure of test riding a friend's R1200GS A, but can not find a K1200S to test ride. So I'm still in the "dark" regarding the choice (spelling?).
Is there anyone out there that can maybe help me, by directing me in the right direction?
If it involves any off-road, then the GSA is the one - no need even to try the K. If it is tar only, then try both because they involve very different styles of riding. Some people prefer the upright high sitting position of the GSA, even on tar. Others prefer the more sporty riding position.
Wel ek is nie veel van 'n "off road" of 'off the road" tiepe van persoon nie. Sal maar die wiele styf op die teer hou.
Ek besef daar is 'n groot verskil tussen die twee fietse, en dit is net daar waar die probleem lê. Ek kan nie my mind op maak nie, want ek kan nie die een loop toets ry nie.
Weet enige iemand waar kan ek 'n K1200S demo kry om te kan loop toets ry?
I think the best bet would be to contact one of the dealers for a possible demo bike.
Turtle, the 2 bikes are vastly different and as charles mentioned dirt vs tar, not to say that if you buy a gs you must ride on dirt roads, just gives you the option. If you could give us more information:
will you be commuting
will you carry a passenger
touring or just social riding
knee down, or straight line junky
self maintenance or relying on the dealer
There are other options you may consider, BMW - F800ST/S, Yamaha Fazer 1000, Suzuki Bandit 1150, other jap superbikes.
There is only one bike that gives you more than 1 option, a D S (Dual sport). It's the way to go.
Hi Turtle,
Not sure if you have bought as yet.
I am fortunate to have owned various BMW models to date, amongst others a 2007 K1200S, 2006 R1200GS a 2007 R1200GSA and a 2009 R1200GSA. I've also had a RT and a GT, therefore I feel quite comfortable to say in a short and sweet answer to your question that a GS or GSA is the ultimate motorcycle and I will not even think twice to choose which one to buy. I can waffle on about why I say so, but because each individual has his/ her's viewpoint as to what bike he/she prefer, which I respect, you can rather contact me for an informal chat about this topic. One specific thing I didn't like about the S was the fact that the riding position made me tired. Maybe another one - I hated the clunky gearshift in the lower gears at slowish speeds........(Yes I know one must hammer the S, but sometimes one also feel like taking it a bit easier)

If youre interested in the new GS, give it a read.
Hi peeps.
Thanks for all the little points of interesting facts. I will contact Mr Carr from Stellenboch BMW and find out if he can't maybe help me with a K1200S demo.
Hope to see you guys on the road some time in the future.
Thanks again.
Geniet haar! Baie geluk.
