Info neded on F800ST
I am trying to find info on a bike as to whether it has the low seat and/or low suspension option. I've tried several VIN decoder sites but get only date of mfg, etc.
If anyone can help, the VIN is: WB10244097ZR10566
To the best of my knowledge, there is no Low Version of the 800ST. Depending on how much height you need to lose, search for my thread on Seat Covering.
You can take your seat in, have it altered and recovered for R180.00.

From what I have heard, there is a low seat option as well as a low suspension option that includes the low seat. So, that makes the bike available in three heights. Being vertically challenged, I'm 5'6", I would like it as low as possible. I have test driven one at the dealer with just the low seat, and it wasn't too uncomfortable. My current bike is a Harley-Davidson Sportster and I want to get a bike that is the best all around combination of cruiser, sport and touring.
I doubt the VIN would contain such info.
When I was shopping for the ST (I eventually bought the S, but no matter), it was explained to me that the lower seat was a no-cost option if taken from the outset (iow you only get one seat) and the suspension involved a component being substituted in the workshop with some further adjustment.
Since this is optional, reversible, done at the dealer, and does not involve any modifications in the factory, I can't see why they would include it in the VIN.
Might be wrong...
p.s. I'm about 5'7" but stuck with the standard setup of 820cm over the saddle. A new pair of boots and I get both feet flat. It is a common complaint that BMW's lowered saddles are about as comfortable as a school bench when the maths master shouting at you.
A buddy of mine rides a R1200s and he just had his boot soles built up a bit. Alternatively, look at the R1200R. Currently they are well priced and have more screen and luggage options that the 800. They also are lower over the saddle in standard spec than you could ever get an 800.
Thanks for the info Frank. I'll take a look at the R1200S. I'll also check to see what the suspension lowering kit would cost and look at keeping the standard seat.
No problem. The 1200'S' is a beaut!
But you mentioned you were coming from HD and was looking for 'the best all around combination of cruiser, sport and touring'.
I wonder if the R1200R would not fit the bill better. There are some great after-market touring screens, make that puppy look like an Electra Glide. Screen and panniers off and it will look more like your Sportster...
Chuck in great handling, 780mm seat height, heated grips, ABS and Electronically Adjustable Suspension and that's about as all round as you could hope to get!
