Invitation to the Theatre
My better half, Wendy, has spent the last few months rehearsing for her next play August: Osage County, which opens this Friday at the Masque Theatre, Main Rd, Muizenberg, for 7 shows only.
She plays the leading role of Barbara, a foul mouthed daughter of a pill popping mother and an alcoholic father. She is married to a philandering husband and has a pot smoking daughter.
Tracy Letts’ acclaimed dark comedy “August: Osage County” premiers in South Africa this Friday. This worldwide hit has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for the best Drama 2008.
Set on the hot plains of the southern United States, the Weston family re-union becomes a melting-pot of insults and betrayal. It depicts one bitch of a family re-union at which you’ll recoil in shock, cry and laugh. The August heat is matched by the emotional temperature of the family interactions. Whatever your re-action, the play will not be forgotten. (Not recommended for children).
Critics have compared this rollercoaster of a play to the works of Eugene O’Neill, Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee. It has toured the United States and been produced in Europe, Australia and Argentina to rave reviews.
The director and several of the cast members have won awards in the past. The play has a very strong cast, and also introduces some new actors to the Masque Theatre stage.
The length of the play is 3½ hours incl. intervals.

So, if you want to see what I have had to live with (and why I've been able to spend so much time on my bike) for the last while, do come along. I will be on duty in the foyer at each show.
