Got there Tuesday evening and had great fun riding there and the company was great! Buurman made a great potjie and thanks to Legadema for the great coffee!
PS: the dismount was staged!
Excellent video clip Rony.
You guys really show how Sand can be ridden with easy. I liked the paking of the HP2 at the end.
Guy in the bakkie seemed a little OTT.
RONY what's with the NOB ,does this mean something or represent your company ?
Wayne
Hi Wayne
It was indeed great fun and riding sand at those speeds with a wingman needs some experience, the next day out of there was just as much fun and the "eish" cold one now and then helped for the heat on Wednesday.
The guy in the bakkie was trying to run away from us but at 130 he had no chance, buurman could not catch us but thought that me and Daniel had great respect for each other riding side by side like that!
NOB "ody" means a lot but is better left alone! Will tell you around a braai fire one day! Do think however you have a good idea where it originated!
Rony and Daniel are very experienced riders, and have ridden together for many years. While the video shows them riding at high speed on a narrow track side-by-side without incident, they could equally well have ridden that track slowly and made it look just as easy.
Please do not think that speed in sand is what makes it easy. What makes sand riding easy is skill and experience. Speed makes it more dangerous. The common wisdom for riding sand is: "Ride as fast as necessary, but as slow as possible".
Over the years that the club has gone there, many riders have fallen there, and a number of them have broken bones and bikes - several of them were experienced and skilled. Personally, on that spoor, I would only ride that close to someone else at low speed.
You are right Charles, speed can go wrong and yes it comes with practice, practice and practice!
Also i can not think of anyone else i would do this with as you have to trust your wingman and that goes for the both of you! I have ridden with Daniel for years and i have a good idea of what he does and does not do, the same for him with me i think.
This is not a brag video but just a reminder to everyone that sand can be tammed and ridden comfortably, just get the right technique and go play!
Just a little laugh with this video and listen to hes remarks after he gets up!
Go play
on my "100 things NOT to do" list!
Really wish I had the skill and confidence.
