Slightly faster breakfast run 6th December '09

Geoff Russell's picture
This ride was arranged after requests from members. It in no way takes the place of our ever popular "breakfast" runs but does give members the choice of an extra ride between the normal breakfast rides. Once the invite went out the ride was quickly full with a waiting list. The format of this ride was to take no more than 12 bikes so filling it was easy. The group led by myself consisted of long standing members as well as a lady rider who has just joined the Club. We all met at the Engen in Plattekloof at 0700. Just before departure we had a pre trip briefing where the do's and dont's of the ride were discussed. It was emphasized that the ride was in no way a race and that overtaking between the passes was not allowed.

Our version of the Annual tour 09

Neil Terry's picture
All things come from nothing, so too this trip report. After last year’s annual tour , where it would have been , in a number of ways, better to have stayed in bed, this year’s got off to an amazing start…,we left Milnerton on time!!!, at 08h01 on Friday morning….a good omen.( Incredible actually):-) The ride in the morning traffic was not too bad, I expect the cars to make some unexpected moves – they didn’t disappoint! Our first stop was the Engen 1 Stop on the N1, René & Jean were departing as we arrived to fill up. At the start of Du Toit's Kloof PassAt the start of Du Toit's Kloof Pass

Mr. Badger Leads his first Breakfast Run

A great ride. My first as club captain. I practised all of yesterday, doing the route via Du Toit's and via Bain's. I decided to take the group via Bain's (less freeway riding) and decided to take the scenic route through Monte Vista and Durbanville - an area I do not have a passport for. We took the Conterman's kloof road, which entered Durbanville from an angle I did not practise or know about. So for about 5 minutes I was lost... Then I recognized a traffic light and realized I should have turned left a block ago. Brian Messenger also realized this and rode alongside me to 'guide' me back onto the straight and narrow.
