Villiersdorp

First solo trip - well almost (completed)

After weeks of scouring the web for suitable routes and countless hours spent tweaking the selected route on Mapsource - I wanted to find a route that avoided the N1, N2 and R62 yet was suitable for a "solo" ride - Adrienne and I finally set off on Friday morning enroute to Wilderness.

Trips near CT: McGregor & Greyton

It was a long weekend, and on the Friday night Gav and I realised we had not really planned anything. A bit of internet research and a quick phonecall to McGregor found us accommodation for the Saturday night; the idea being that we would simply point the bikes in a direction and take things from there. We had ridden the Koppies gravel road near Villiersdorp a week or so earlier, but wanted to go back and explore a bit more, so headed out from Cape Town via Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. It was a perfect day for being out on your bike, and being mid-morning on the Saturday of a long weekend, the roads were lovely and quiet.

Junior Pillion off-and-tar road ride

This trip was organised by Andy - see his comments on the forum. He organised it a week before. Anyhow, even though there were no other riders besides myself and Andy plus our nephew, we still had a fantastic time with fantastic weather. The roads were quite muddy at various stages, and you had to look out for ruts. We used exactly the same route as the previous time (see trip report). This is a relatively easy off-road trip with mostly good dirt. There is also quite a bit of tar in between. The scenery was alive with canola fields and blossoming orchards. It was not too cold and we had sunshine most of the way.

Meet at the Engen, everything you need to know including the map to the meeting point and information on what to bring is at these links: http://bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/node/1 http://bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/faq#41n65 The Toy run is on the same date as the Dixie's run on the schedule. Thus the Dixie's run was moved forward to this weekend (replacing the Villiersdorp ride). The Dixie's Run has a Vintage / Veteran theme. Hennie is thus requested to bring his R100RS out of retirement. Similarly ALL BMW riders are asked to bring their Vintage and Veteran bikes along for the ride.
