I have a low seat that is in almost new condition for the f650 single. As I am not sure of the price of one of these seats would go for, I am hoping for a reasonable/fair price from the buyer =). Lemme know if you are interested.

Contact Chris Dunn - he has bought a few lowered seats. Somehow a price of R1300 for a new lowered seat is in my mind .... overheard a conversation at a dealer, so might have it totally wrong .....

On your profile it says that you are new to biking? in that case are you looking to learn with a lower seat or is the seat hight to hight for your feet to reach the ground properly?

Good question Nils. If Hexnova wants a lower seat while learning to ride, i'd say stick with the higher one. When I got my dakar i was intimidated by the height and got it with a lower seat. Now i wish I had the stock seat. If it is a height issue... well, thats a different story.

Thats exactly my thoughts.
Thats exactly my thoughts. It would be good to learn on the lower seat, ( I was going to put the lower one on for the klibokkop intermediate course but decided against it as im a tall-ish bloke). It would be good to learn with the lowe seat on (especially offroad where footing/stopping place is sometimes out of your choice haha). Use the lower seat for learning, then put higher seat back on after the confidence is there offroad / on-road.

Yes, as you said, I have no idea what price to offer for your seat. I'll ask some friends though. The reason I want the lower seat is to learn. That's why I intend keeping the higher seat.

I've actually riden around a bit and have gotten used to my seat, so I would not need the lower one. Thanks for the offer and all the advice!

Lowered Seat

I tipped my bike (yet again) in my driveway just before departing for the meeting a couple of evenings ago.  My right foot didn't find the ground fast enough.  Lucky for me, the garden wall was there to save the day (45 degree from vertical) and the only damage sustained are scratches on the screen.

I decided a lowered seat is a MUST now.

BMW Atlantic quoted me R3200+ for a new lowered seat.  Maccarthy Trimmers in Diep River wanted R850 to modify it.  I don't have the tools (nor the skills) to DIY.

Can someone give a contact name and number where I can get this done at a reasonable price?

Thanks Shah

He is in Parow and did Noelene's Dakar seat for R300.00

Tell him that Atlantic sent you to him.

Did a great job and quick too.

R300 redo

yeah, Danesh did mine too -

He replaced the sponge too tho - be sure to ask him for a harder sponge, or maybe source your own.

Mine is like an cheap Edblo, which it turns out is great for my back.

More like Goodwood, but near enough. Didn't take that long either and did a nice job.

Also R300

Great job by Danesh

I got mine back today (less than 24 hours turn around).  The result was very good.  He took almost 2 inches off the foam and stretched the seat cover nicely.  Looks like a BMW original lowered seat.  Cost R300.  I still cannot "flat-foot" but both my feet can be on the ground at the same time.

texture

do yourself a favour and try out the seat with your offroad gear on. The fabric he used to cover mine combined with the offroad gear is extremely slippery, and this is not a good thing to learn just as you hit a turn at speed.

I've got used to it now.

Photo of lowered seat

The seat cover is the original BMW seat cover.  He just stretched the material to keep it taut.  Notice the stitch line is now lower and closer to the bottom of the seat.  I told him to shave off as much foam as it was safe to do so...I estimated around 1.5 to 2 inches.

It even felt OK with an Airhawk cushion on the seat during my breakfast run on Sunday (300 km).

I took my daughter as pillion for another 50km ride.  I thought she would be  sliding down towards me because of the increased incline (due to the shaving of the foam).  She said she was okay.

Velcro?

What's that velcro patch on the tank for?  Is it for the short & curlies to keep you on the bike ;-)
