Went to the booksigning at W&A Waterfront yesterday and met the man ... Charley Boorman.  What a fantastic guy!  Down to earth and that twinkle in the eye.  He inspired us so much; we've already started planning our next adventure trip.  Up the west coast this time.  Thanks Charley and BMW...

I was there too, and agree,

I was there too, and agree, what a nice guy.

Humble, friendly and when talking to you gives you 100% of his attention.

My sister has sent me the special editions of LWR and LWD, and I was hoping they would arrive in time for his to sign them. but alas, had to settle for him signing copies of my books.

Top bloke.

I'm sorry, but are we saying

I'm sorry, but are we saying Charlie Boorman = sincere, upfront, upstanding, the kinda guy you take to war, etc?

And we're saying all that with straight faces?

Then let me break the trend by saying: Charlie = CHOP = prancing tutu-wearing show pony.

Eina!

No we are not saying that.
The very last person you'd want to take to war would be sincere, upfront and upstanding.

I'd want to take the most evil, vicious, violent mother ever.

Just seems to prove that everybody has an opinion, no matter how different it may be.

Met the guy a few years ago

I met Charley a few years ago and spend the evening at his dinner table (was invited by some of his friends at an informal doo) and besides being a fun guy and a bit of a party animal I can not fault him in any way! No foul language was used and the ladies never got offended. Man does he have a wealth of anecdotes and stories to tell and he does listen to yours! My opinion? Wish I could spend the evening in his company again! Pity the friends I knew have moved to India!

PS: Saw him again afterwards at the GS challenge in Loxton and he came up to Jos and I and asked how we were doing!

He gets thumbs up from me! Go Charley!!!!

Afterthought

Thanks "Cloud" I also fight my own wars! And yes i take the capable with me! Watch me I fight with Hydenau's!!!

PS: watch your front and yes the back has to follow, 1.6 bar (off road) 3 bar on the black stuff if you please, 140km/h and you make 14k back and 20k front, 140 or 150 back does not matter! Done 100k on them now! Always remember to have fun, the payments are harsh!!!!

OK, I'm willing to concede

OK, I'm willing to concede that Charlie Chop might be a nice guy in person.

I've never met the man, so cannot pass comment on him first hand.

I'll take the word of those who have.

But from what I've seen on LWD, LWR, Race to Dakar and By Any Means Possible, the guy just does not present as sincere. He does not display much vasbyt, comes across as a winger and spoilt brat.

Although I appreciate what he and Ewan has done for adventure riding and BMW in particular, I cannot deny the impression he leaves me with. I cannot pretend to speak on behalf of others, but I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.

Hopefully it will inject some balance into this conversation?

I would love to have met him

I would love to have met him this time round again. How'd you know he was here????

I thoruoughly enjoyed meeting Charlie and Ewen in May 2007 at Aghulas.

Annie still teases me about what a groupie I was.

Just happens I parked my 1150GSA, rigged like their LWR bikes right where they stopped and Ewen went and hugged it and thats how I got my entre to them and Of all, Claudio is the nicest, Charlie is great and Ewen is a bit governed by agents and manager to be allowed to be just Ewen.

But it was momentous to meet and chat to them.

Andyman

Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic.
