To ensure we have a safe trip, we have a pre-departure briefing. The object is to enjoy ourselves, but we do observe riding discipline. My road rules: · Consider all road-users, all the time · Watch your wing mirrors all the time · Ride in staggered formation and never directly behind another bike · Bike # 2 always on the left as leader does weave R to L and back to count headlights in his mirror. · On passes, ride in single file, never abreast and give yourself room to react to the bike in front’s antics. · Watch your wing mirrors all the time · If you cannot see the headlight of your buddy behind you slack off until you do. Stop if you are not being followed · Never get behind the sweeper. · Give way to faster cars or bikes when it is safe to do so. · Do not push beyond your performance envelope, rather allow a bike crowding you to pass and get on. · We will ride on tar at 120kph GPS speed and wait for slower riders as needed, no problem. Watch your wing mirrors all the time · Watch out for the “Hun in the Sun” or the “Bogie” – That’s the spirited road bike coming up your exhaust at 210kph and screaming past. · If you stop for a lekker photie, the sweeper will also stop and wait. · Please inform me discreetly if you are on chronic (regular) medication or any medical information that may effect your health (Daibetes in particular) · MOST Important, when you take a turn off the current road, wait for follower to acknowledge before pulling off, no matter how obvious it seems to you. · The sweeper has to be very aware of the back-up bakkie. · Do not leave the group unless so arranged with the leader and informed the sweeper. · You may pass bikes to find ‘your slot’ but try stick to it. · Please toot-toot and flash to let a bike in front know you are passing to avoid scaring them. · Only pass a bike on the right hand side (your left side) Watch your wing mirrors all the time We ride through a few gates, lead rider will place a rock on the gate post if it was closed, so if you are sweeper and you see a rock on the post of a gate, please close it after the back-up has gone through.
