This weekend the rear mudguard thing on my adventure broke off. I have seen this happen to other bikes before and the obvious thing I'm wondering is... is this supposed to happen so easily or must I just accept this as part of the package and cost of offroad riding?

Maybe some of you more experienced riders can give me a few tips on this. Most people seem to think that you should just take the thing off, because it is one of those "German requirements" that isn't really supposed to be on the bike in SA.

Yes, take it off

Apparently the manual says you should remove it if you ride offroad.  I took mine off Mr.Badger and he looks much better.

Just remember to put the bolts back in the holes, otherwise they fill up with sand and you cannot put the guard back on later.

I agree with Charles, it was the first thing I did with Rommel, as it just looked far better from an asthetics point of view, and seemed more practical as well. Cool

I broke two mudguards on my 650 dakar and one on my 1150. Decided not to replace it as it will only brake off again.

I agree with Charles and Buddy, take it off.
