Mushroom Plugs

I have a leaking mushroom plug on the rear wheel. It lose about .5 bar a day. I have been riding with this slow puncture for a few days now and wonder what to do. Auto Atlantic fitted both mushroom plugs and now it will be the second time that 1 of them leaks. So I wonder if it is worth my while to take it back to them to repair the leak, or just buy a new tyre. It cost about R120 to fit a mushroom plug if my memory is correct. I will probably get another 1 month's riding out of the thread left on the tyre (2000km). Where can one buy mushroom plugs from, and are they easy to fit?

What is this? Is it a plug
What is this? Is it a plug in the tubeless rear tyre? I have repaired a leak om my current bike (tubeless rear tyre)using the normal push-in/pull-out rubber "worm" and have never had any leak problem afterwards. Have since travelled approximately 2000 km. both on tar and dirt. They still work the best. KIND van die WIND

Benna, apparently the normal
Benna, apparently the normal 'snot wurmpies' that you push in is not so safe and should only be used as a temporary fix.

Cloud, they install from the
Cloud, they install from the inside of the tyre and the pin/long shaft gets cut off...it is for pulling it up against the tyre. As to these mushroom plugs, I have heard of them leaking, a mate's Speed Triple, after x2 attempts he ditched the tyre. BUT as to the strings/ snotlappies, I have always had great success, and on tyres road and o/road,bike and cage. My bike tyres were ridden std and low pressures on dirt and tar, fast too, at times....NEVER a leak, just do it properly. Use Search on this Forum...there are pics of how to......tubeless puncture, I think.

A mushroom plug is fitted
A mushroom plug is fitted from the inside of the tyre and is used on tubeless tyres only. You insert the stem of the 'mushroom' from the inside of the tyre and pull it through using pliers. This means that you need to take the tyre off the rim to make the repair. You also need to clean the inside of the tyre around the hole, apply tyre cement and stick the plug to the tyre. I do not know what the drying time is but I heard it is 24 hours. I do not know if this is true. I still do not know if it is worth the effort to fit these plugs and if it is really that much safer than the rope plugs. I heard of more leaks from people using mushroom plugs. It seems as if the mushroom head separates from the tyre after a while.
