My 2010 December Holiday trip
Got capital approval from the higher headquarters in my household for a trip. It was raining on our farm in the Karoo and it became another excuse for a good trip.
When I left Saldanha on Friday morning the clouds were still in the air and the daybreak was just awesome to see.
Near Moorreesburg
Sunrise near Piketberg
Riding into light rain near Piekenierskloof
A view of the Swartland from the top of Piekenierskloof
The Beemer in focus on top of Piekenierskloof
Entering the Cederberg Mountains near Clanwilliam
Adjusting the tyre pressure for gravel.
The Doring River in full blast. It was scary standing on the bridge.
The Botterkloof Pass from below.
Botterkloof
The road towards Calvinia
The road between Williston and Calvinia on my way to the farm.
Volstruisfontein: where I spent a large part of the first 18 years of my life.
Leaving the farm on Sunday morning on my way to Middelpos. Ek het amper my gat in die klei gesien!
The road between our farm and Middelpos.
Middelpos was stil Sondagoggend!
Riding from Middelpos towards the Gannaga Pass.
On top of Gannaga Pass.
It rained in the Ceres-Karoo!
The Ceres-Karoo at its best - with the Cederberg mountains in the background.
Finding safety in numbers. Three groups of adv riders meeting by accident in the middle of nowhere near Onderwadrif.
Riding through the Ceres-Karoo is always an experience. After the rain it was even more so.
Taking a water break near Katbakkies.
Looking down at the Cederberg Mountains from the top of the Katbakkies Pass.
Sunday afternoon near Riebeeck-Kasteel on my way home.
I know it is probably dangerous to ride these roads on your own. At the same time, though, I knew that there is nothing that is cleaning my head like being on my own, alone on my 1200, in the middle of nowhere! This was a trip that I needed after a year of drama, spit and polish.
Nice report Abel. It's a great feeling to be out in the wide open like that stoksielalleen, and to successfully cross the wild to reach your destination.
Stunning pics, Abel. Thanks for the report.
Fantastic report and Pics Abel............
Thanks. Great pics
Nice report. I still have to do that part ofthe world. I also sometimes feel a bit "uncomfortable" when I ride 'stoksielalleen' on gravel roads, but on safer tar roads I appreciate my "me-time".
Lekker report Abel, That farm looks good 'n green, lots of rain no doubt.
