I popped in to Atlantic to check out the new 2010 Adventure that just arrived.....................

Noticeable differences :

The exhaust tone is decidedly more "throaty" than previous models. This is created by what looks like the old "EXUP" valve on the old Yamaha FZR 1000. The difference being that the BMW exhaust valve is controlled by 2 cables, an interesting concept.

The tappet covers and engine protectors are different.

Clocks are more oval with new numbers on them

Engine revs another 500RPM higher.

Dashboard is different with the fuel gauge now where the temperature gauge was. Some other changes as well.

New colour scheme. Yellow or dark Grey available.

Brake and clutch reservoirs are a different colour to previous models.

Oil filler has moved from the left to the right hand side cylinder.

Wind screen tightening nuts are now like a butterfly nut but with 3 points.

Can't wait to test ride one.

Be honest

Are you trying to tell us you haven't already ordered one..................Surprised

I had a good look at the new

I had a good look at the new exhaust flap thing today... It works on engine RPMs the higher the RPMs to more the flap opens... my concern with it is that it is mounted at a crap place on the bike... very low, facing down, just behind the CAT and sure to be hit by a stone or when going over logs... on the flip side I can see more business for people like Wild@Heart... make a cover for it :-) But even a cover might not help when it gets hit...

you can see it mounted on this picture (number 6) but to me it looks like it's facing more downwards in real life.. Still an awesome bike :-) I really like the yellow..

Exup valve

Yes i still refer to it as an exup valve, dont understand why a big twin would need one?

I got to ride the new 1200GSA

I got to ride the new 1200GSA today and have it as a loan bike until Monday.............What a difference:

Immediately you start the bike the new exhaust sound is immediately noticeable and remains so until you are at cruising speed when it seems to quieten down quite a bit. Not that it is at all noisy mind you but definitely a more "throaty" growl to it.

I also love the exhaust "cackle" as you shut the throttle and run onto compression. Not annoying at all but to me it is a lovely sound.

The next difference was the throttle response, the engine seems to be much more "perky" than before and response time appears to be vastly improved. Again not that I have had a problem previously but this is I am sure quite an improvement.

Then I thought that the gears were a lot smoother than previous Adventures that I have had. Could be mistaken as most gearboxes seem to be slightly different from the next.

The gauges took some getting used to especially with the now smaller temperature gauge. The swapping around of the fuel & temperature gauges took a short while to get used to.

I had lots of traffic on the N1 and the Adventure is still not run in yet so can not comment on the extra RPM's that are now available.

Definitely a step up from the previous Adventure in my opinion.

Well done BMW!

Not far off

Not far off DuToit.

Interesting to note that it appears that the New 1200's are lighter on fuel than the previous generation bikes.

Yesterdays trip that had us riding at vastly different speeds with lots of dirt thrown in including longish stretches at 130kph on tar returned an overall consumption for the day of 5.4lts per 100klm's.

I was very pleasantly surprised.
