New bike, but it's a problem
No I haven't traded my Dakkie for one of those huge things with the cylinders the wrong way, but I do have a new bike, every time I turn my ignition on, the speedo (both main and trip), go back to zero. This started on Saturday. At one point it seemd to be keeping the new total but when I switched off for a longer period, back to 0 km's on the clock.
Now while I realise this is obviously a problem for the specialists and their computers, I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar and if so what the problem was and what did it cost to fix.
any comment on the manufacturer of your new bike? it might help to narrow it down a bit
Same thing happened to my Dakar. Per Atlantic, no way to fix it so need to replace the clock/mileage unit. The quote was seriously expensive, so I now have a 2nd hand unit that shows another bike's travel history; it's something of a brain transplant giving the bike some mild schizophrenia.
Maybe you must wait a few months before fixing.
Well I decided to check a few things, had a look at the battery, thought the terminals could do with a clean, took the battery out, charged it overnight, put it back, now I've got no dash.
All the warning lights still work as do the the illumination lights, but the clock and the trip meter are dead, as is the rev counter and the speedo, (if it works off the back wheel).
So as mentioned above here, I probably need a new dash and will have to look at used, but the question is can I still ride like this. I have GPS with time on and speed, milage etc so all I wouldn't have is the rev counter, but non of my other bikes have that anyway. But will these absence of these items cause anything else to shut down or cause the bike to break down somewhere between here and Oudtshoorn this weekend.
