I have just received news this morning that the Heidenau k60 tires will be here in the last week of January.

As we had a lot of enquiries about the tires, I just wanted to let you guys know.

Cheers

What have you got in
  • 100/80 21, and
  • 100/100 18

(or similar?) I need to put 'For Highway Use' tyres on my crf 230 in order to pass the roadworthy and license test.

does the traffic  dept know

does the traffic  dept know the difference between a mx tire and a dualsport knobbly?

Well

The dead giveaway for the guy who did my bike was the words "Not for highway use" embossed on the tyre sidewall.  So I guess any tyre without that text would do the trick, though it would be useful if the tyre didn't blow up at 100km/hr on the freeway also Wink

For me, the knobblier the better, but for my wife maybe something a bit more stable on the road.  What have you got?

You should have seen

the look of horror on his face when I suggested that we just guess a number for the odometer reading, somewhere just under 1000km.  That would be fraud!

Don't go back to the same

Don't go back to the same venue.

Bureaucracy is simply a skills challenge, navigate through and around the obstacles..... they are only obstacles if you allow them to be.....treat it as a game and have a fun filled day! Smile

Don't make it more difficult by adding concepts such as exactness, honesty, ethics etc.  After-all, bureaucracy is itself an opinionated concept.

It looks like you've written something in english - I just wish I knew what you were saying.

musta missed mine too

coz somehow I understood that..

but it may be coz I spent a bit of time in the immigration dept of Home Affairs in Barrack Street yesterday. My friend stood there (a brief amount of time) to get a form (the illusive Form 20) entitled

Authorisation For A Illegal Immigrant To Stay In SA

and it's valid for 1 Month..

awesome, we get to do that all over again in March! Yell

For what it's worth there's a great little coffee shop around the corner (higher up the hill Mavericks is on, if any of you know where that is Cool ) called 38 Special.. Laughing

a crummy building on the outside, but really good on the inside

(and no, I get no commission on that plug!)

charles as much as I want to

charles

as much as I want to help you on this front I would recommend Dunlop 606 upfront and a 606 at the back. However Im not sure if a 120 will fit in the rear. (120 d606 seems the same profile as my mx tire thats a 100?)

The shocker is that they are around R700 each.

Tyres on a 650X-country

Just something I wanted to get off my chest. The Xcountry comes standard with Tourance 19 front and 17 rear. For some reason these tyres feel incredibly unstable and non-user friendly on gravel - to me - ! although I know of somebody who says his are fine.

They are great on tar.

Any comments welcome as it is not great to feel so unstable.

When I put TKC80s on all was fine.

I would appreciate your experiences.

Cheers

The TKC is a much more

The TKC is a much more aggressive tire if you compare it to the tourances. Its the same as riding with motard tires on gravel opposed to mx tires. You will have some more movement in the front while the back should just skid along.

Sven, run a tkc upfront and a heidenau in the rear. This should be a very good combo.

This is the combination I'd like for my Dakar.
Any idea what this combo would cost me?

Steven, The TKC front

Steven,

The TKC front R950-00

Heidi 140 rear R1100-00

Pete, the 150's imports has been ceased due toe quality control. The only tire in that design is the mefo explorer only available in 18inch and around R1500 a tire.

Tourance, Heidenau and TKC

I don;t pretend to be an expert on such matters but find it interesting that one can mix two different types of tyre on single bike - ie. TKC on front, Heidenau on rear. I assume this reduces one's braking performance fairly significantly when on tar.

Will try this combo when Tourances have done their useable life. will use TKCs front and rear - which I already have -  for off road weekends

Thanks for advice

I always run TKC on the front

I always run TKC on the front no matter whats on the back. Never had a problem with then except i treat the back as an event tyre...2500kms...& chuck away.

I put the 140 D908 back on now & its disasterous on tar but good on dirt. Will try the MEFO150 back takkie once the D908 is worn or i'm cheesed off.

You got 150 mefo's...rally version?

About twice

TKC rear is about twice the Heidi K60, and lasts less than half the distance - so you are looking at over 4 times more expensive to run.  I have a new rear TKC 80 that I put on only for special occasions (e.g. Dune course or suchlike).

Eish, this hurts!  I paid

Eish, this hurts!  I paid Biketique R2500 Cry last year for a set of Heidi's for my 1200 (140 at the rear, NOT the 150 which is what I've wanted......).  Hamman fitted the front tyre for me last week (after I got 21 500 km out of my Conti Laughing) but it is way out of balance now! (it vibrates thru' the bike, plus the handle bar is shaking quite badly: from 40-140 kph).  It is not Hamman's fault, as I took it back on Saturday, and witnessed them trying to balance it.  It is either the tyre, or the rim.......

Can one get a new tyre, if it is indeed the cause of the problem?

dtv,  if it is indeed a tire

dtv,

if it is indeed a tire problem, I would certainly contact the importers about it.

There is new brand of tire that will soon be imported into SA.

The Mitas EO-7 - Heidi / sahara 3 look-a-like will be under R1000 for the 140-80-17 (apparently also as wide as the 150 heidi)

Guys in the states are doing about 15 000miles out of these.

Looks promising.

DTVI guess it has a lot to do

DTV

I guess it has a lot to do with the exchange rate. Rand is currently fairly strong... Still, my R2003 was more than I expected, so I hope I do not have issues. Had them fitted yesterday and will see how it goes.

After putting the new tyres on I realized I'll have to raise the height of my centre stand now...
