Riders years of experience

Hi, I'm Garth (32) and stay in Brackenfell. I work as the Manager of TygerBurger community newspaper in Tygervalley and we serve the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town with 285 000 newspapers per week, delivered free of charge to the households in 12 different areas where each area has its own unique newspaper. I'm fairly new to biking and decided on a BMW 1200GS in 2010. This was my 1st ever experience with a bike. I have approx 2 years experience on the GS now and have done about 20 000km since I bought the bike. I have also done an intro to off-raod course at Country Trax where Johan Olivier from Wild@Heart was our instructor. Have done a few interesting trips through the Cederberge (it stays my favourite), Wupperthal/Eselsbank/Clanwilliam, Tankwa Karoo to Sutherland, Merweville, Stanford/Tesselaarsdal, Van Wyksdorp/Ladismith/Herbertsdale and the gravel roads in the Stillbay/Riversdale area to name a few. My wife, Carien (28) is on a 2008 F650GS twin (blue in colour: called Mamma Smurf...)

I was introduced to the wonderful world of motorised two wheels two years or so ago when I got the cutest little Vespa for commuting. Then one day hubby dearest came home with a 'baby 800' (the 650GS Twin) - also for commuting purposes, of course. As the saying goes, "what's mine is mine & what's yours is mine," so to cut a long story short - the garage now houses an 800GS, 650GS and a Vespa. Gavin and I love weekend rides, looking for the best way to connect good coffee shops/restaurants via gravel. So far we've discovered some amazing places and routes, not to mention the great friends we've made. See you out on the dirt somewhere!

I'm currently doing the mid-life-crisis-on-2-wheels thing, having only started riding at age 45. I dream about dirt roads and wide open spaces, but spend most of my time in urban traffic. I aspire to ride a 1200GS when I grow up.
I did a bit of riding 20 years ago and would like to start riding again.
just want to out and about hat 4 walls and over populated area,s

My name is Charl and I haven't been on a bike for nearly 15 years... previous one was a KDX200. Bug has bitten big time though... currently shopping for R1200C. Figured I'll try a cruiser as I do all my offroading on 4 wheels. UPDATE: As a temporary measure I'm riding a Sachs MadAss 125. What fun! UPDATE AGAIN: Can't stop grinning about the cruiser! Hi, Tian here. Got my first BMW (an R75/5) at the tender age of 19 in 1986 ... always loved 'em! Had another Beemer (R100) but no bikes in my life for about 15 years - started again at the beginning of 2009 with my shiny new 800gs, and this is my first foray off-road, hence the 1-2 years experience level. Update (April 2011): after an incident with a cage my 800gs got written off. HP2 is my new bike.

Well my dad is Geoff Russell and he has been just short of nailing information about what to do when on bikes into my head with a hammer. I have only really started riding properly with my dad the past few months, before that i just used my bike to commute to....wherever.

Long story short... Originally from the small town of Hofmeyr in the Eastern Cape. After studying, moved over and spent 4.5 years in the UK. Back in SA end 2008. Bought bike. Moved down to CT in January 2009. And fwoila, here I am... The 'rest of the world' no longer is a couple of minutes away, but the plan is to try and see as much of SA and the rest of Africa and what better way than on a bike? Problem is... Life is short... Loads to see, lots to do and not enough time...
Hi I am Andrew Jones-Phillipson, married to Michelle with son Kyle (19) and Emma (17).
