Riders years of experience
I'm an IT Architect. Married to Adrienne - "retired" teacher, now home exec. Hoping to spend many enjoyable hours on the road. Starting to enjoy riding some of the easier gravel roads after a year on tar.
Chris, 47 years old, last rode a Honda CG125 in High School - the same model that that delivery drivers could not break, Thankfully, mine had no 'chemist' box on the back!
Just bought an 800GS; 800km, 2008 model, crashbars and wide footpegs, BarkBusters, etc.
Very well looked after, mint condition! I'm a happy camper...!
my name is Stephen Drew, am 50 years old and live in Knysna with my my wife Olga and our two labbrador dogs.Have two grown up kids, the one being the Etv weather man.Am also a very keen mountain biker.Went through the XT era and owned and road such bikes in my youth. then bought a 1200gs in Dec 2005.Had great dreams of traveling through Africa. Got sick thereafter which has damaged my balance nerve and could not ride my bike for over two years. have since taught myself to balance and have been on a Namibian off road trip and a shorter one to the Northen Cape. Were there a will , theres a way. it also helps to ride a gs.
A Yammie DT250 and Honda's CB550F & CB750K2 in the 70’s gave way to my family, son’s Robin ('79) & Nicky ('81) and daughter Kate ('84). No longer married to their special mum, Debbie, and now partner to the ingenious Wendy. Fast forward to 2008, when Robin arrived in Cape Town on a Ducati Multistrada after a 32000km trek from Italy through Africa (http://mutitrek.blogspot.com) and left two weary Italian girls in my garage for 6 months. Well, they had to be ridden, didn’t they? And my dormant love of all things motorcycling was re-awakened. Fortunate to become the new owner of a good friend’s 1200GS in July 2010, I’m now set to explore our country and continent on my lady, Esmeralda.
Hi! Name is Bertram. Been riding for several years now but mostly on a KTM supermotard. Thought I buy something more civilized - so I got myself an F800S. Absolutely love going on breakfast runs. Just looking for a nice group to ride with.
I bought my Dakar in Nov 2007. It's my first real motorbike. I joined the club shortly after.
I like to have fun, and am a perennial joker. I'm the first person to make inappropriate comments.
I have lived in Plettenberg Bay for 25 years stopped riding in the late 70's at the time riding a 750 Ducati. The bug bit again four years ago and bought a Susuki VZ 800.
I traded the cruser in on a 2008 1200 GS on Friday 18 June and as you can emagin I am over the moon.
My wife's name is Toy Black and she is going to join me in riding as often as possible.
Hi my name is Brent Sender and I live in Higgovale with my wife Janet and daughter Nina (19). I used to ride years ago and I have only recently got back on a bike. Absolutely loving my 1200 gs. I am a keen cyclist, both road and mountain bikes. I have been sailing pretty much all my life and love adventure and the outdoors.
Hi, I'm Turtle. Used to ride a Japanese bike, but had to sell it because of financial difficalties. Lurking around for a BMW. Have to decide between 1200 GS A and K1200S.
Alvin Kushner.
In the past my wife, Merril and I spent most of our recreational life in Yacht clubs and at sea. Our last boat was a 37ft Catamaran which we sold about 9 years ago as the work pressure of our tour operation no longer allowed us enough time to sail.
Four years ago I bought my first commuter bike, a cool but ridiculously too small for me Yamaha BWS scooter to beat the local traffic but eventually replaced it with a new Vespa GT 200 cc which I still use for local commuting.
During mid 2007 at the age of 65 I finally bought my most prized possession and probably the first object that I've owned that I find hard to fault, a brand new Sand Beige (What a horible name for a colour) BMW R1200 RT. I've already logged up 40,000 (June,2010) of enjoyable and exciting Sunday breakfast riding with wonderful companionship and I look forward to taking my bike out for a run at every oportunity that I get.
About a year ago I discovered the pleasures of loading a small tent, inflatable mattress, sleeping bag, gas stove, pots'n pans etc onto the bike and spending the odd night out. Pity my wife wont ride with me. (She refuses to travel with anyone who steers right when he wants to go left.)
