Reading matter
Shortly I will be spending 13,0 hours in a silver tube at about 30k feet. Can you recommend an easy to read adventure book preferably through Africa and biking related. I have read Sandy's book, White knuckles and red tape, N Yell's book on the great Karoo trek.
I have both the Ewan and Charley books, which are much more interesting than the DVD's.
I also have Charlies Race to Dakar book, also very interesting.
The books are alot more in depth than the TV series.
I also have a copy of Jupiters Travels.
And I have a couple of books by Kingsley Holgate, more or less the same, just in a Landrover and not on a BMW.
Deon Meyer – Heart of a Hunter – English or Afrikaans
The main character is pursued through SA riding a GS1150.
Elsa also enjoyed the read.
David, strangely enough I met Deon Meyer today - a very nice guy.
Try Roald Dahl's collection of short stories. Excellent writer. Ideal for reading on a trip. Cost about R150.
Also the three books in the millenium series by Stieg Larson. Really gripping read, hard to put down once you start reading.

Just now you girls will be swopping recipes !!
I'm not a great reader but recently bought my girlfriend a Kindle E Reader...it's the Bomb !
A true story about a trip through the Congo that will make your hair stand on end. While not strictly a biking book, he does a lot of the journey on the back of a Honda Benly (when the only way around an obstacle is to pick the bike up and carry it, 100cc is easier to manage than 1200cc).

Flightless: Incredible Journeys without Leaving the Ground (Lonely Planet Travel Literature)
Flightless is not a book about motorcycling, but is a book about adventure. It comprises of 26 real-life stories, each written by a different author, all of which talk about methods of visiting other countries without using a plane. What I love about this book is that at its heart it proves to me that if you plan your adventure down to the Nth degree, you'll probably not have an adventure at all. Each story reveals a chain of events that could have ended up in catastrophe but ended up giving the author a story they'll remember for the rest of their lives. And to me, that's what adventure motorcycling should be all about. Shortly I will be spending 13,0 hours in a silver tube at about 30k feet. Can you recommend an easy to read adventure book preferably through Africa and biking related. I have read Sandy's book, White knuckles and red tape, N Yell's book on the great Karoo trek.
Phew, Thank you for the response, I now have several interesting options, Exclusive Books here I come. Warren thank you for the offer but travelling around with borrowed books is not a good idea.
Hi Rene, also look at Dana Snyman's book about travels on the back roads - awesome reading if you can read the Afrikaans version as it's lovely idiomatic writing, but the English translation is also excellent.
Other adventure-type books I recently enjoyed include 'Rowing to latitude' and 'Salmon fishing in the Yemen' and "Over the edge' or something like that - about a guy who makes up a 'bucket list' and goes off to do some crazy adventure stuff
PS When Gav and I travel, I go to the nearest secondhand bookstore or bargain bookstore and buy some cheapies/over runs which can be left with friends on the other side if you dont feel like hauling the books along for the whole trip
ciao
