Recce Ride (Off Road) Saturday 3 December 2011.
I am going to go and check out a particular dirt road combination I have not ridden before in preparation for my upcoming Buffelspoort Ride in the Ceres Karoo area. I really just want to make sure there are no locked gates etc along the way. Saturday 3 December is the only day I have available. So.......
- It will be a day ride, round trip of about 376km from and back to Cape Town.
- The ride will not suit rank beginners and the group would ideally not be larger than 15 bikes.
- We will leave from the new meeting place in Plattekloof Road at about 07H30.
- We will lunch biker style somewhere along the way, please bring your own snacks etc.
- We will not take a back up vehicle, but will have a Satellite phone if something should go wrong.
- Take enough water for the day. We can stop somewhere on the way home for a beer.
So if you’d like to join me on a bit of an explore and a day out, drop your name in a post onto this thread.

Hi Warren, got my bike back to-day, and it's about time that I learn to ride again, so yes, I would like to join on Satruday. C u there.

Damn damn damn ... I'm on lifeguard duty :-(
Looks like next year is going to be the next time I do a club ride.
Can you please add my name to the list if there is still availability.
Thank you
Theo
But what an awesome day it turned out to be and it's always nice to explore new places. I have been wondering why there is absolutely no activity and camp site or anything near those two dams.
and the wind, well besides a bit on the N1, a bit more in Du Toits Kloof, it never really bothered us that much.
But it was a worthwhile exercise as my route home this Sunday will have to change a little. Unfortunately that was more than a sprinkling of sand.
Warren, thanks for the great ride and it was great to me some of the longer standing members of the BWW club as I don't often get the chance to join on the rides.
I've tried to make a few photos from my GoPro videos, and upload them, but it did not work.... Charles, I DID save then as *.jpeg, but it still did want to upload?
The sandy section was actually 770 m long, and not only 300-400 m!
It appears that the road past the two dams does continue right across the mountain, but it becomes very steep later on - more like 4x4 country. Worth having a look one day.....?
Thx Warren et al for another very nice trip. Pity you are skipping that section this week-end!
Did you get an error message? Try with *.jpg, or email me one of them and let me see what the problem is.
