Relaxed offroad ride: Sunday 17th July, Greyton

The BMWMCCC is offering an off-tar ride – good gravel roads from Somerset West to Greyton

WHEN : Sunday 17th July. meet 08H00, Brief at 08H20 and leave.

WHERE : N2 at the BP- WILD BEAN garage just on far side of Somerset West 1km after you cross the railway bridge in S/West.

A weather call will be made on the day before.

This regular Teslaarsdal ride through the Hemel en Aarde Valley is very popular.

This ride will be a relaxed, slow ride to give riders new to gravel an opportunity to experience gravel riding under the guidance of experienced riders.

Limited to 20 bikes only, we ride in two groups of ten.

Bookings on a first booked, first served bases.

We will set/deflate tyres to off-road pressure at the start.

.

Each group with a ride leader and sweeper.

Service vehicle with bike trailer, medical support gear will follow the ride route behind the bikes.

Lunch stop will be in Greyton.

We will cover some really cool and remote farm roads in the most awesome surroundings.

Very pillion friendly, suited to riders new to gravel riding, the route is 350 kilometres end to end.

We will not ride fast, this ride will give you the opportunity to gain confidence on gravel roads in a controlled environment, practice the skills you have just learned on training course and get kilometres under your belt.

We will have plenty rest stops to take photos,

Lunch will be for your own account.

Costs: (covering support vehicle and trailer)

Club members R30.oo

Non club members R50.oo.

ROUTE PLAN

 

 

East on N2 for 35km to Houwhoek hotel. Then a gravel ride briefing. Gravel roads for the rest of the day (with short relaxing tar sections at intervals)

Remount and ride on the now famous and beautiful ride down the valley to Bot Rivier. 3km tar then a really cool gravel section taking us to the skirts of Caledon, then right onto the R320 (8km tar) towards Shaw’s pass & the Hemel en Aarde valley.

Half way down Shaw's pass we turn left onto gravel following the Teslaarsdal road along the Hartebees River via Sonnendal farm and the Klein River crossing.

Next is Jongensklip, over the N2 and then smooth gravel to Greyton.
