SUNDAY 15TH MAY 2011  08H00.  PILLION FRIENDLY

FULL DAY RIDE: Starting at the BP Express, N2 outbound, just after Somerset West.

BMWMCCC  RELAXED RIDE

COST: R30.OO/bike TO OVER MEDICAL KIT AND SERVICE VEHICLE WITH TRAILER.

NON MEMBER ON FIRST TWO RIDES R50.oo.

If you new to gravel road biking or have recently been on a training course, here is an opportunity to put those new skils into practice.

The Greyton ride is supported by a back up vehicle and trailer.

Limited to 22 riders. riding in two 11- bike peletons. club members have preference for bookings before non members.

Mechanical and medical support on the route on the ride.

This is a new route to Greyton covering some new roads.

We leave after a ride briefing up Sir Lowry's Pass, then on to the Houw Hoek pass.

At the bottom, off the N2 onto the R43 at Bot River on kilo43, then almost immediately onto gravel.

This is a wonderful road through the cereal agriculture farms, recently washed clean by the early winter rains.

It has one short tricky section at kilo 52 where you can opt to have your bike ridden up the hill for you.

We arrive in Caledon on kilo 77. a short ride on tar skirting the town and then onto the R320 at kilo 80. and left onto the 1st Teslaarsdal (not ridden on earlier rides) on kilo 83.

This is gravel and we drop into the Hemel en Aarde valley.

At kilo 108 we trun onto the tar R326 for only one kilo.

Left North for 20 kms up past Jongensklip station to the N2 crossing on kilo 130.

A left right and then the last 20 kilos on gravel to the Posthouse restaurant in Greyton.

Lunch for own account, first non alcoholic drink is free.

Return trip is 110 kilometres back.

After lunch we ride to Genadendal on tar R406. Right on the Riveirsonderend gravel road, following the valley right up to the R43 and the Theewaterskloof dam.

Left up the Pampoenkraal road to the top (beginning) of the Bot river valley.

We follow down the Bot river valley for ten kilos to climb up the fantatsically fun but short van Zyls pass into Bot River town.

Back onto the N2, up Houwhoek pass and to the end point - Shell Firlands garage just before S/West..

Pillions are always welome,

Pillions are always welome, and they just need to be included in the head count.

Back up vehicle contributions are per bike, not per head.

Pillions very welcome

This was the best of a

This was the best of a brilliant series of beginners rides organised by Andy.  It was a great pity that I had to leave at lunch time - but duty called.

Well done Andy and thanks very much to all the helpers.

Thank you Andy, for all the time and effort put into organising this great ride.

I'm not sure we all appreciate how much time it takes you to get something like this together.

It was a great day, pity I had to leave you a little early.

Many thanks,

John
