Hi Guys,

I have to the point where i am going to replace my handlbars.
my original ones have a slight bend in them but more concerning is the overll condition of them on the left hand side. Rust has set in, not only on the outer side but inside wall as well. removing the weights, tapping the bar, and some rust came out.

I have read the threads on AdvRider forum in the UK, a US one and now need to decide.

My options:

Renthal TwinWall Handle Bar (Windham 998)
Specs are as follows:

Renthal HandleBar - TwinWallRenthal HandleBar - TwinWall

 The 998 denotes the bend.

SW Motec non shock Endurance Bar
Not easily found in SA, but has shock absorbtion built into the handlebar. Wunderlich use to do this, but stopped it for SA markets.

Magura X-Line
this is the OEM one. They make the bars for BMW.

My choice is currently the Renthal bars...

Any words of wisdom??

Stop falling off

Your handlebars will last longer that way.

You are mistaken sir.

My handlebars have no issues.Cool

My old handlebars have a small issue but luckily I know a certain Mr Versveld who seems to have an entire 800 in his garage in spare parts.Smile

Smartass!! And the only

Smartass!!

And the only reason Trevor "assisted" with a pair of bars is so that you would keep quiet! Otherwise, all we would hear is, "my riding is being affected because of the bend in my handlebar!".
Was more for our sanity than anything else!!
hahahaha!! :)

And no Warren, don't even think of ways to "punish" me!! I dont drink anymore, so no straf dope for me or any surprises in my gear you hear boet!!

hahaha

Gee

If you can get a non-OEM bar to work I will be impressed.  Could've spent a fortune on one for Mr.Badger some years ago - and it all came down to 'heated handgrips' or not.  Luckily Jacques had a new, unused one for me that was a lot less than a fortune.

DarkWing Duck is going to get a new handle on things! ;-)

Also, they come in different colors!! But unlink the Stan's and Trevors of the club, I'm not going to go for the bling, but the original color! Cool

Bars Fitted

It's not often that a guide is accurate, but fitting the renthals where exactly that. 45min, done. now for the harder part... the bar ends and the guards. Tomorrow a quick stop at the engineering shop, to machine done the ends of the bar ends and then sorted! ;)

Feels a lot better aready!! ;)

See Charles, it does work!!

Fitting Done

Renthal's fitted.
Bar ends machined and test fitted - now drying after sealing.

Issues: Handguards bump against visor when at full lock. But i was aware this was going to be a issue and looking for alternative.

Final Thoughts:
Worthwhile for me. The position is more comfortable than before, by far for me. Especially for seated position. Standing is different but feeling positive. A set of ROX bar raisers is in order to fine tune further adjustments.

Will do some proper riding soon to fine tune further.

Charles, on the 1150's it's a bugger, but possible. On the 1200's, it's a breeze! I still have my heated grips (working) and all!

Pictures later.
