Riebeeck Kasteel
A "Terry"-fied Honda
By the time we got to Travellers Rest in Riebeeck Kasteel, we were 19 bikes. As always at this establishment the tables were set with juices waiting for us. It was not long before the coffee was poured. The “civilized” part of the breakfast (meusly and jogurt) just does not do it for some of the men, and definitely not for Corne. He just could not wait for the “proper” breakfast (bacon and eggs) to be served.
Breakfast at Travelers Rest
Shame the only "casualty" of the breakfast wat our beloved Rene. When he heard the price, he got severe chest pains - fortunately Jean offered to pay. Rene slowly regained some colour to his face. Jip, we are not quite used to R65 per person (including the tip), but I do think that it was very good food, well prepared, and profesionally served. All in all, good value for money.
The food was long gone, the tables cleaned, and we were still sitting around just enjoying the conversation. It was just before eleven before we finally left. 5 bikes, 8 people decided it was way to early to go home. Wellington – Bainskloof – Slanghoek – Du Toits Kloof – home, just sounded SO much better. At Slanghoek we stopped at the low water bridge and took some photos. It was not long before tried to take a group photo – with no tripod in sight a GS was the next best thing we could find to balance three cameras on self timer mode. Finally a couple on “another” motorcycle saved us from ourselves and offered to take the photos for us.
Group photo in Slanghoek
The ride through Slanghoek valley was once again breathtaking. It feels like yesterday that Spring was in the air with all the blossoms. Now it is clear that Autumn is here, dark purple and brown leaves are to be seen all over. Past the weighbridge and onto the Trout farm, for some liquid refreshment. Last night, or should I rather say this morning at 3 one of the roofs were blown clean off! It is now lying in the fishpond.
Who said you should not get your wife and "girlfriend" together?

I think Die Silwer Hings se owner was more "Terry" fied with my suggestion of..." Since we are passing Nelson's Creek, perhaps we should pop-in and see how the grass and ants are up at the camp site, for next year's Nelson's Creek".
BUT He better managed to smile than René, who upon naughtily being told the breakfast was muesli and Yogurt and stewed fruit for R70. nearly choked...I think a pork chop flashed through his mind..chased by a farmer wearing a new pair of Caterpillar boots!
All in all a very very nice venue with SUPERB!! service.

Thank you for an awesome ride! It seems you don't always have to get dust and sand up your nose to enjoy the ride ;-) Running back home with `Die Silver Hings` was really enjoyable! Thx Chris. Even Taryn enjoyed her first trip... however she did complain about a sore bum, he he :-)
Seems like the 650 seat for a pillion is a bit hard :-)
I want to add that the breakfast at Travellers rest was superb! And worth every cent...
Muesli and yogurt, stewed fruit, coffee, juice, croissants, scramble eggs & bacon, sausage, tomato, creamed mushrooms, toast...
Go make that yourself for R65 (including tip)?
Some pictures I took...

I use an Open source PHP gallery called Minishowcase...
http://minishowcase.frwrd.net/
I host my images on my website (http://www.ygm.co.za) as a sub domain... http://corne.ygm.co.za
Works well because I can upload my images in folders... very easy.
I've been away on holiday hence my absence on the forum ;-)

For those who do not have the ability to host their own website, you have the option of several free online galleries:
# picasa.google.com
# flickr.com
# bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za
The only drawback with our own website is that you cannot easily upload whole folders of images. This is a good thing for the club because we cannot afford the disk space and bandwidth required if everybody just dumped their photo folders on our server. Take a look at Annie's trip reports - the pictures there are much more valuable because she had to choose the better ones, and add a comment about them.
Also, you can bring your photies to the club and exchange them there - much quicker and cheaper than doing it via the web.
That said - I enjoy browsing Corné's gallery. I just don't think the mechanism is suitable for all of us and the club in general.
