Rony took a tumble
Hi Guys
Rony Desodt had a off during this last weekend. His a bit battered, but still has his sense of humour. It happened near Nieuwoudtville.
I spoke to him last night and tried to find out what happened. Seems he had some bike trouble and Jos ended up in a farmers bakkie with Rony following on the bike. Looks like he had a highside for what ever reason. I'm sure he will say it when he is online later today or tomorrow.... "Wear a Leatt Brace"
I hope you have a speedy recovery my friend. Just give me a shout if you guys need anything.
Daniel Nelson
I trust you will be up and riding again soon - and hopefully the bike isn't too damaged. Daniel doesn't mention about your arms and legs and things, but if your sense of humour is intact then you can deal with a few missing limbs
Thank heavens your better half was not on the bike with you.
Here's to a speedy recovery.
All the best Rony.
Hope it's nothing to serious.
Heads up for a speedy recovery Rony. I hope that your injuries are minor and that your pain is bearable.
Get well soon Rony
Rony, Hope you get over the misfortune quickly.
Hope the bike is not to badly out of shape.
Looking forward to seeing you back in the saddle.
This enforced rest will give you time to plan for a lot more fun in the New Year.
Thniking of you.
Hi Rony , sorry about the tumble , get well soon.
Regards
Hamid
Rony get better soon!
Speedy recovery, Ronny
Ok, just got back from the hospital visit.
First off, Rony wants a cold windhoek draft. Don't think the doctors or nurses will be too happy, but I think give the man what he wants.
I must say that he is looking remarkably well for a man that has been in a motorcycle accident, if he had been covered by sheets top to bottom I would have said they pulling a prank on me. I guess they giving him the good stuff.
He will be going in for an operation on the ligaments in his right thumb tomorrow at 9am.
I will keep you updated as soon as I get more info.
Thanks for all the well wishes. As Danny mentioned im going in for an operation on my right thumb to fix the ligaments. But the more accurate medical report is as follows ;
6 ribs fractured on the left back and 2 of those are fractured at the front as well. Bottom lobe of the left lung collapsed and has internal bleeding. Also a drain through the ribs into the lung cavity.
Having worn all the protective gear including my learth brace and the Grace from above saved me from further injuries. Wear ATGATT even if you go to the loo.
Thanks again for the well wishes.
All the best Rony, and when you're fit enough, I know of a very good training academy that you should probably attend
I wish you well with your op and may the bike be repaired by the time your hand heals ,take the recovery slow ,so you may have many adventures later on ,and remember if in pain take medication ,only the silly like to suffer ,may you heal quickly
Good to see your post Rony.
Sounds like a 100% recovery is expected.
glad there are only minor complications, nothing time in bed will not heal.
Don't tell me you sent Jos back for the bike!
And dearest Jos and Kim, sorry the young man had to give you such a fright.
You must of being through all seven types of hell 'cos he moaned so much. Hoope he let you nurse him 'cos he can be a stubborn basket. Lucky for him you were there and qualified to do the right thing.
If you need anything , shout. (I'll send daniel... he he he)
Hi Rony
Good luck with the operation and the recovery.
Arno
Holding thumbs for a quick, complete and reasonably painless recovery Rony.
When you are back to normal let us know what happened please. It may help prevent other accidents.
Good luck with the op!
Wishing you a speedy recovery Rony... Not the greatest way to welcome in the new year, but glad you're ok for the most part...
Hi Rony, sorry to hear about the accident (hope it was not the Sand Monster ;-) -- all the best for a speedy and full recovery... hope to see you on the bike soon.
Hi Rony, I hope that you have a speedy recovery.
Darn Rony that's not good news! Just shows it can happen to the best of riders. Collapsed lung can't be fun! I'll be holding thumbs for you (especially as yours are now in need of repair!)
I'll give you a shout when I'm back in Cape Town.
Rony, we wish you a speedy recovery and may the recovery time be quick.
Let this be a lesson to all, even the best riders fall.
Happy New Year Rony...I am thinking of you with positive thoughts. Speedy Recovery.
David Cade
Speedy recovery Rony , glad you ok !
Hey ou Toppie, jammer om van jou bad luck te hoor:word vinnig en 100% gesond!! Sien jou op die volgende "Wille Ding" (aka ROF-EN-GEREED)!
Get well soon !
Hey Rony!...Speedy recovery mate.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune Rony and by now you should be repaired.
pleased you came out of it relatively OK!! cheers Andrew
Rony is back from his cat II accident and reporting fit for duty.
The thumb will keep reminding him of his off for a few months but otherwise he's in good shape and keeping the saddle warm.
Well done Rony.
This is great news!!!!!!
When I next see you Rony we can have a cup of tea and discuss our injuries!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and the support during the last few weeks, shows you who are your friends when you are in need. A special thanks to the medical people from the Calvinia ambulance, Bloemfontein Flying doctors and Cape Gate hospital. Thanks to my wife Jos and daughters, sorry I gave you such a fright.
As Andy mentioned the thumb will bother me for a long time to come but the Doctors just cant believe I ride bike already even with the modified Velcro cast.
Lessons learnt, ATGATT, dress for the fall, it was 40 degrees and as I was following a bakkie it would have being so easy to "underdress" I DID NOT and it saved my life!
I hit the ground head first and although the Leath-brace may have broken 2 ribs with the chest plate there was nothing wrong with the neck, not even stiff the next day, helmet needs to be replaced.
After the high-side the bike hit me in the back, fracturing a further 6 ribs and puncturing the left lung making it fall flat, in addition, a suspected spinal injury (got a fusion years ago and one of the plates is broken) and the right lung starting to malfunction as it was filling with fluid I got airlifted to Cape Gate medi-clinic (Fixed wing).
At the time of the accident I was wearing my Rally-pro suit and looking at the multiple black and blue (Green and yellow after a few days) bruises I had, the protective pads did their job in protecting me from more fractures or lacerations. Hips and elbows looked the worse! Suit looks fine!
I wont even cringe anymore if I see someone riding in shorts and plakkies, I will just start to pray!
Thanks Lord for my second chance!
Never a truer word spoken Rony.
