Short weekend rides
Moerofa lot of members, best rider province and very little weekend short off road trips other than the mad rush to join one of Geoff's rides once in a while. Strange. One would think that someone would invite two or three other riders to organize a day/weekend out on the dirtroads around here. At a more sedate pace.Maybe everyone goes to the WD forum to do that? What am I missing? If there's no backup vehicle we don't ride?
Hey GV.
Once you ride with us a few times you will quickly meet other riders that ride in smaller more intimate groups. There are lots of those.
WD's are also an option.
The Club try's to offer 2 official "dirt" rides per month.
I don't see your name on our ride for 28th February.
There are a number of smaller group rides, but often un- published as they know one- another and mail or call directly.
it may be a good idea to start posting these rides on the site, but we also need to be careful and make sure people understand that these rides are not official club rides.
Sorry, I am not answering my calls right now because there is someone I don't want to speak to. Please leave your name and number and if I don't call back it's you!
I am unlikely to post adverts of the short rides I do with my friends because the whole point of them is to ride with people I am comfortable with and to keep the group small.
Exactly as Charles says, I only invited him along on the Lesotho Trip after I heard his bike was in CT whilst he was in Port Alfred....at least I'm subtle!
I prefer small groups or solo off-road....I have enough dust in my work.
Same with tar, really nice to have a small group dance through a pass.
GV re: no back-up vehicle no ride...no buddy no ride???
I have a mate who claims he is too gregarious to ride solo... his bike often stood, always asked me 'how do you ride alone'....always got...'put key in ignition, press button, go'.
GV you are spot on about the amazing ride opportunities we have here, as well as the amount of riding, added to this a vibrant Forum.
I spent a few hours looking at the other RSA BMW M-Cycle Forums....we don't realise our good fortune iro. our Forum, rides and friendship! Good advice and good banter, after a few hrs of looking around there was a really strong feeling of grattitude towards ALL, for their contributions.
An example: A question was posted on this forum re servicing of bikes, I saw the same question posted on another club site... it elicited x1 response there, and little info in the reply, as opposed to the info given here.
GV come to the club meeting and rides, meet some of the most amazing people. I too enjoy my own company but also like to share it with Jean, We have done many trips just the 2 of us, it is oh so lekker.
I attend most club meetings, and have been on a few club rides and that's why I wonder and ponder about the "seeming" lack of shorter off road rides over weekends. But I have spoken to quite a few people since and thanks to the feedback from all who have responded here, I have a better idea of the "why's". Seems not everyone wants to do 400kms a day at full speed on gravel.Maybe, like Cloud suggested, we could just post a little note on the forum if one-or-two of us wants to go for a ride?( I was under the impression that going out with others is better as far as safety is concerned). But I don't mind doing the Lone Wolf Mcquade thing every now and then. Thanks to all who have responded though.
GV,
Your quote "Seems not everyone wants to do 400kms a day at full speed on gravel" refers.
As you will have seen we have 4 categories of rides......
1) A general off road ride suitable for all categories of riders
2) A beginners ride.
3) An intermediate ride.
4) An experienced ride.
Then our long distance rides such as to the Transkei.
None of the above would fit into your quote however and I doubt we have ever done anything like this before.
GV ever thought of riding alone? I did a few days CT to Graaf Reinett, did +- 8 days East Cape trip,a Baviaans trip , and Lesotho alone, just ride.
Otherwise, come to the club meetings and work from there.
