Ben v d Bergh has rims straightened. In his own good time. He is a retired gentleman living in Tokai. Drop off your wheel, he will disassemble and then send the rim only to an engineering shop that rolls the rim true again Ben will collect the rim and re-spoke and true up the wheel. Expect to pay circa zAR 600.oo if your spokes are all intact. more if you need to get more spokes or if you've abused them and they are very difficult to de-spoke. I'm doing my front and back wheels in January, I will dis-assemble and take him the parts to speed up the process. One has to be careful to check the orientation marks (arrows) in the hub and corresponding marks on the rim. I'll use the opportunity to polish the spokes to their original glitz. Andyman Ypu, that's me. the one standing up in the traffic.

Hi Andy, Ben does not maybe also seal spoked rims for the 650 bikes to enable them to run without tubes? “Its all about the motorbikes, always has been and always will be. “ Ewan McGregor 2007 0823335473 henkbekker@vodamail.co.za

Henk, as soon as one turns
Henk, as soon as one turns one of those spokes, intentionally or otherwise, the seal would be broken again. :(

Ben is doing my front rim.
Ben is doing my front rim. Also, polishing up the spokes etc. However, don't be in a hurry as it takes him around 2-3 weeks depending on how many rims he has in the queue. He is a great guy who builds old bikes, expect to chat, ha ha.

And Ben also does not do
And Ben also does not do conversions for tubed rims over to tubeless. He's a rare breed of artisan that does things properly the old way...in his own good time. But he's doing a good job. He's also rebuilding my speedo. After 100 000km the gear driven off the worm drive is wearing teeth and slipping now n then. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Henk, the guy's on the KTM's use insolation tape over the center of the rim(to cover the spokes)and then have the rest rubber lined (eg.Rino lining)up to the inner edge of the bead.

de-spoking and re-spoking
de-spoking and re-spoking is really easy to do. and it takes very little time. with a tubeless hub there really is only one way to lace it. constantly dinged my 19" front on my R1200gs, i decided enough is enough.i stated straitening and re lacing my own wheels. these soft tubless 19" rims are really not built for africa, so i decided to build my own 21" conversion kit. it is basically an off he shelf HP2 rim and spokes laced on a original 1200 gs front hub. thus twin discs and abs and all that. a custom clamp is needed so designed my own. interrested give me a shout getting set up to sell as a kit.

Pity, he takes so long to get it done. Not helpful if you need your bike daily. 2 or 3 days without my bike i could handle, but no more than that.

I'm considering getting my
I'm considering getting my old flaky chrome cruiser rims powder coated in matt black... but I heard that it is quite an art to lace bmw tubeless rims, due to the unique way that they are laced. See http://www.woodyswheelworks.com/bmw.shtml But if it's really so straightforward as Niklaus says, I might consider it again...

I had my front rim
I had my front rim stripped, painted and reassembled by Ben a while ago and was dissapointed by the result.First he fitted the hub the wrong way round which he then repaired, then I noticed how he had chipped the paint inside the hub. When I finally fitted it to my bike, and I could not ride it as it was so far out of round.I then retentioned it myself after about 4 hr of work now all is well. After this excercise I will probably be able to do the job myself next time.after the first ride the paint is already comming off.(Ben did not paint it himself but had it done)My bill was 1000 ront!!!!

Had my 1200gs  rims and hubs

Had my 1200gs  rims and hubs powder coated black. The wheels were re assembled by Alan from Pig Cycles in Phillipi . stirling job and 2 days max wait. give him a call 0828956000. I must say walking into his workshop on the farm is like walking into a bike museum with all the vintage bikes.

Not if it is urgent

Ben's dictionary does not include the word 'urgent'.  I suggest you try one of the other contacts.  No really.  How about phoning Cecil Penny to see if they can do it or know of someone:
