We are organising a similar talk in Cape Town , at BMW Auto Atlantic in the Waterfront on WEDNESDAY 1st December at 18h00 , probably a combination of his two talks in Johannesburg/ Pretoria. A big thumbs up to BWM Auto Atlantic for hosting this event!

To book please put your name on this thread, or e-mail Dave Higgs at DAVID.HIGGS@bmwdealer.co.za, or me at RynetGS1200@ gmail.com . There will be a R50 attendance fee payable to Auto Atlantic at the door to attend the talk which will help pay for Ted Simon's flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back ,and entertainment , food etc whilst he is in Cape Town.
I am busy organising a bike for him , alternatively he can use mine .
Thank again KalahariBen from Wd's for the idea and actions
See below what Kalahariben had to say on his thread :
"Hi there everybody
In 1973 a 46-year-old Ted Simon embarked on a four-year, 125,000km, 45 country globe circumnavigation on a 500cc Triumph Tiger. He would retrace the route of that journey 24 years later on a BMW R80GS at the age of 70.
Jupiter’s Travels and Dreaming of Jupiter aptly depict his experiences.
After having read these books, I promptly decided to see whether it would be possible to meet this legendary adventurer. Putting action to thought, I managed to track down Ted’s e-mail address, and started harassing him to visit good old South Africa.
So, with a huge amount of help from Roger and Sharon at Bavarian Motorcycles (012-643 1680), it has now transpired that Ted will be visiting our beautiful country later this year.
I'm keen. Well done for organising. Should be an interesting talk.
I'll be there..!!!
Ok so the date changed
I won't be there
Apologies
I had forgotten the BMW club meeting is on a Tuesday , and since Sir Ted had used a BMW on his 2nd world tour it would be nice if a lot of BMB club members can attend his talk, hence the move from Tuesday to Wednesday the 1st December . I am sorry you cannot make it RA
The correct date is 1 DECEMBER 2010 , to book please e -mail Dave Higgs from Auto Atlantic at DAVID.HIGGS@bmwdealer.co.za
I found Ted once halfway up Ganaga pass tumbled over in a ditch with a 650 Dakar. The bike had fallen so awkward one man would never get it out there, helped him get the bike back on the road and without a clutch lever on his bike pull started him and then let him drive none stop to Ceres. Never saw him again! That was about 5 years ago! Nice and quite chappie!
Would like to attend.

Re Parking arrangements . If you are on a bike you can park in front of Atlantic Motorrad in Beach Road on their "stoep".
If in a car please park in the Waterfront . The BMW Pavillion/Granger Bay Parking Garage directly below the dealership is a good bet as it has a lift that goes right up to the first floor of the BMW Pavillion where the lecture room is. Entrance just to the Sea point side of the dealer in the Waterfront.
See you all 6 for 6.30 tonight
Hi . Ted's Jupiter's travels and Dreaming of Jupiter books willl be on sale tonight at the talk . And there will be a cash bar . See you all there.
Try and book here , but if you have not booked it is fine to just arrive at the talk tonight . Its R50 per person attending.

BOTH books extremely worthwhile!! Nice to see Jupiters Travels being available... it went out-of-print and I struggled for a while to get my copy....
What a fantastic visit by Ted Simon, special thanks must go to Renette for organizing his trip to Cape Town and all the arrangements for the talk last night.
Also thanks to all the Wild Dogs who supported the event, much appreciated. To JP Wilson who arranged and sorted out the laptop and sound for the evening well done!!
Agreed.
Fantastic evening. Ted Simon is a very interesting, charming and humble guy. Huge thanks to Renette for organising everything.
