Toy Run 2011

Hi All,

It’s that time of the year again where we as bikers get to take part in a very special event, the Toy Run. I will be managing the tickets and the communications between the club and the Toy Run organisers, so if you require some additional info, not listed below, please let me know.

The Toy Run
Started in 1982, in both Cape Town and Jhb by the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, this event has grown into the largest motorcycling-charity related event and very possibly the world!! The Cape Town leg of the event has over the years achieved something of an iconic status, making it a very special ride for all and by all i mean all odd 15000 bikes!

What is the Aim?
The Toy Run aims to distribute toys and gift to less privileged children (under the age of 18) of all races in orphanages, shelters, homes and hospitals. Added to this it also aims to improve the image of motorcyclists

The Toys
The Toy Run’s insignia is a teddy bear, as such a lot of soft toys are brought along for the children. However, this is not the only type of toy permitted, any toys for (no toy gun or related items will be distributed) older children are welcome and in need, examples are balls, rackets, etc.

Remember that to come along on the Toy Run, you need to bring a toy along!!

Logistical Details and Feedback:
This year, the Toy Run will start from a new location, the Ysterplaat Air force Base and will end in Maynardville. At the end of the post, you will find links to all the relevant information as well.

We will be leaving the venue at 10h30!

Now, this year a new challenge has been thrown at the organising committee, new legislation that has been passed has put a cap on the number of bikers allowed into the end venue and whilst this number is not available to us currently, pending the response from the Cape Town Fire Chief, it will be less than last year. The number I have floating around is 60, but this can change, so don't take my word for it as yet.

Having said this, I would like everyone who will be joining us to please do two things for me.
1. Reply to this thread indicating if you will be joining
2. Send an email to john@sat.co.za with the subject line “Toy Run 2011” and include your pillion’s name (if coming along) and your name and bike type.

Once I have more information, I will pass it along both on the forum and in email to those who sent me the mail.

Just to recap:
Event Date: 27 November 2011
Departure Point: Ysterplaat Air Force Base
Departure Time: 10h30 (+/-15min)
