Traffic laws
AARTO (ADMINISTRATIVE ADJUDICATION OF ROAD TRAFFIC OFFENCES) is coming into effect sooner or later, most likely towards the end of the year. Apart from the points demerit system there is another important issue. Under the new act summonses sent to the address registered on the E-Natis system are legally considered to be delivered. If you have changed your address and not notified the licensing authorities you have no excuse any more. So keep your address up to date!
At the same time I would like to find out where we can get information about new traffic laws and regulations.Does anyone know when the following changes in legislation where made:
When was the law abolished that you had to indicate when turning or changing lanes?
When was it made compulsory for for cars to slowly drive into the centre of the intersection while waiting for green?
When was the recommendation made to switch on the irritating rear fog light in a clear night?
When was the meaning of STOP change to yield?
I could go on and on, but I think you know what I'm getting at.
I think it's the motor manufacturers that are at fault in the fog light thing - South African motorists aren't aware that such a thing exists, and that turning that switch that far will actually switch on something that makes riding behind them so irking.
I spoke to some folk about their light, and the lady was duly impressed that there was meaning to that position on the switch - she just thought it was convenient that there were multiple places on the turn that could switch off the head lights.
