The Ultimate Bikers Chair
I discovered the ultimate biker's chair - The Walkstool - whilst
preparing for a 6500km Victoria Falls trip and decided to import a few -
you can't keep quiet about good news!
Why I like my Walkstool?
- Its small enough to fit on a bike, but extends to full height to sit comfortably
- Its comfortable. Unlike other 3 legged stools the Walkstool has a large comfortable seat
- Its strong - 6 Walkstools supports a Volvo station wagon
- Its light - made of commercial grade anodized aluminum and heavy-duty nylon mesh seat.
- Steady. The big rubber feet stops the Walkstool from digging into the kalahari sand or slipping on smooth surfaces
- Durable. I can see my Walkstool lasting for years.
-
I use it in the lower position to oil the chain and the higher position
to relax at the camp fire. It even came in handy at the Zim Border
post!
Everyone else liked it. They constantly wanted to sit on my chair☺
After test-sitting Walkstools I brought in two sizes - the Comfort 45 for shorter people, and the Comfort 55 with larger seat.
I brought in 20 Walkstools only - PM me if you are interested, or call Roodt on 0824405250.

you can't lean back into the walkstool...
I personally prefer a chair like the alite... IMO the best biking/hiking chair

The Alite is great! Nothing better than kicking back after a hard ride..

How are you Bud , been a while since weve chatted.
Intresting Link that ....but ummmmm , but I think if you have had one too many xxxx Beers you will have a problem sitting in that Chair.
Send me your email adress.

The whole point of sitting is to be able to lean back and relax. I suspect the alite would struggle to hold the typical SA male though - he would probably need one for each butt cheek.
I just bite the bullet and take a proper 'meneer' camping chair. They are cheap, strong, and big enough to curl up and snooze in.
One can lean back with a Walkstool - like this☺
Leaning Back: Leaning back in a walkstool
I have researched the Alite Chair. Two problems: you have to balance yourself on it the whole time - so no true relaxing. The other is that you are on the ground - in dust and mud. You don't always want be down there. Preparing food, making fire or working on your bike is an upright activity for which you want comfortable seating. That's where the Walkstool excels. And then there is getting up once you finished sitting on the alite...
I just parked the walkstool against a tree or a wall when wanting to lean back.

With you on that one Charles ... I can even put wheels on my "cheapie with a beerholder" and drag it behind the bike.
and big enough to curl up and snooze in.
Speak for yourself
I use the cheapo with a chain through the bottom of the three legs to support my 120kg frame.
Chair is only used when putting me boots on.
These three legged chairs on soft ground take huge strain so I'm sure this one with it's long legs must be very strong.
Charles I've seen some big guys use an alite.. It's a very strong and popular chair with bushwalkers and adv riders.
I do agree that sitting low to the ground is not always the best option, but I think you can't beat the alite on overall features. Size and weight with the comfort you get, alite is tops.
If you want ultimate comfort you should get the folding camp chair that some people refer to as the BMW GS of small camp chairs, a Kermit Chair. http://www.kermitchair.com/
One of my riding buddies have a Kermit, believe me this thing is ultimate luxury as a camp chair. You can sit on it for hours without discomfort. I'm thinking of getting one myself. Bit bulky though.

A chain or rope through the feet helps stabilizing the cheapies. What I liked about the Walkstool is the solid rubber feet. It does not slide on smooth surfaces, and the feet don't bury itself into the ground. It was stable on almost all surfaces.
An accessory is available for unsteady surfaces - the Walkstool Steady.
Steady
Walkstool with Walkstool Steady
It might be noteworthy knowing that this stool is used by professional hunters.
It is steady and high enough for hunters to support themselves with stability when shooting.
On a long trip last year also to Namibia and Botswana I took a similar chair as the walk stool. BUT turfed it and bought me a folding camping chair with a back rest in Katimu for R100 at a China shop!!!! I kid you not. Reason for this was i needed a back rest when relaxing at night. I just tied it on to the top of the rest of the kit with no problems at all. Also the seat area of the stool tended to be a bit restricted and after a long day in the saddle you need to spread the pressure a bit.

Yeah, carrying a chair is almost a must on trips.
Dunno if the tripod style would ever be practical n the aline is too flimsy n limited as well.
I'm always strapping my two spider chairs what I got for 110 rond each. n wot I replace whenever they become tacky - every year or so.
When I stop for the rest or for the night, I slip them out their covers , fold them open and have an immediate jacket rack and can sit and remove my bootses.
As anyone what travelled with me knows, I keep a pair of plakkies in my back pouch of my Jakkie and I wear boxers or swim trunks so that I'm in shorts n plakkies within minutes of stopping, leaving me comfy n free to move around.
So the spider chair comes along on all my out door trips and is a valuable companion.
The side pockets hold my keys n stuff an I can sit plat n relax, leaning backwards while musing at people around.

The chair surely looks very cool, compact and durable. However, the price is somewhat steep! In all honesty...I'd rather sit on a tree stump and use the money I've saved for 2 - 3 extra tanks of fuel. My Campmaster chair of similar dimensions have lasted me 5 year to date and it cost me R95. I hope it sells but I wont be buying....

Hi all
The Walkstools have just arrived from Sweden.
I like them a lot. I have replaced my office chair with one and now sit ergonomically correct.
Contact me if you are looking for one. The list of orders got lost after a server crash.
