If you are using a Mac laptop then an app called Launch2Net Premium can be a most worthwhile buy.

Due to my work taking me around the Western Cape, some times CellC is not available, or too slow/ intermittent. This app allows me to use a different dongle with an Mtn, 8Ta or Vodacom simcard to connect....simply plug in the dongle and shortly you're online.

Some of the newer dongles are multi band, so simply swop the sim card, plug in and surf...

I bought this after trying to use Cell, Vodacom and 8ta software to run their respective sim cards...conflicts....Trashed all of those "Service Provider on Macbook" Applications and bought L2 Net Premium.....now great and easy

I also tether via my iPhone...really nice and easy too!

I'll leave it to Charles to tell all you Windows users how much happier you would be if you didn't do Windows!Laughing

The dongles/ USB modems I'm using:

I'm using a Cell C  Hauwei E1820 with C-C sim, and an 8ta Hauwei E367 with a Vodacom sim.

No issues... put sim in modem> plug in to Macbook, and away.

Launch2net Permium seems slightly buggy in that occasionaly a quick Force Quit is needed to kick start it, but seldom, overall Really great! and there have been updates so developers are responsive.

Oh, running the most current Lion. 10.7.2.

Hi Neil, any bright ideas for

Hi Neil, any bright ideas for us (unlucky) Windows users?  I have a place in Rooiels and need to use my laptop there: I currently have a Cell C data pack and simcard, but the signal in Rooiels is non-existent!  Looking at the MTN and 8-ta websites, their signals are also very weak over there, and Vodacom is stupidly expensive with their new data packs (but the signal is very nice and strong in Rooiels.....)!  How do I solve this, please???Embarassed

Thx, Du Toit
