What music do you like to ride to?

Hey everyone,

I realise that this is a matter of personal preference but I'm interested to hear  which songs you listen to when you ride. I used to be one of the purists who only wanted to hear the rush of the wind and the sound of the engine but I am starting to reflect on the merits of having music to listen to when I do a long trip.

I've found that the music I normally enjoy doesn't always cut it on the road, perhaps my mindset is too different when I am on two wheels!

Why not share a list of your fave songs and I will do the same once I figure out what mine are.

Safe riding this weekend!

B

Hey Pete!

Great selection, thanks. Kings of Leon and Linkin Park rock! I'd add Nickelback (love.'Rockstar' and 'Next Contestant Please') to my list as well.

Here are some of mine so far:

Judas Priest's 'Turbo Lover' gets me cranking it up too, ride way too fast though.

Jethro Tull - Steel Monkey

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing and Sultans of Swing

Def Leppard - Pour some Sugar

On the bike, on the road, I

On the bike, on the road, I like the sound of the bike, the engine, the tyres, the environment.  No music on the bike.

I listen to music at home, quality sound with no background noise.

Good music is something special, worth concentrating on. On the bike I have more than enough other (nicer) things to attend to.

Maar nou-ja, smaak verskil....en gewoontes verskil.

:)

I kinda like Reggae when

I kinda like Reggae when riding.

Pink Floyd, Goldfrapp, Grateful Dead, some of the Dope on Plastic albums, actually it's all mood dependent.

I am with you here GK. The

I am with you here GK.

The only music I want to hear is the wind, the tyres and the engine.

The only "beat" I want to feel/hear is the beat of the engine under my bum!

However to each their own.

I should add I only listen to

I should add I only listen to music on the boring bits of the ride. Long tar or gravel highway sections. anytime I'd have ear plugs in.

I don't like wearing ear plugs when doing technical stuff, or when I'm not dong high speed traveling.

I always listen to music. I

I always listen to music. I have a few different playlists for different riding. Favourite songs:

Eagels - Hotel California (any time any where, specially towards the end of a long days ride)

AC/DC - Thunderstruck (at the start of a near impossible obstical)

Rolling Stones - Painted Black (early morning or just before getting off-road)

Live - Lightning Crashes (cool down after a bit of extreme off-road)

Some bands not mentioned by others:

Nirvana

The Offspring

Bush

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Guns n Roses

Maroon 5

Midnight Oil

Then I go a bit heavy:

Metallica

Iron Maiden

Sepeltura

White Zombie

Rammstein

I could go on all day about the music I listen to while riding and enjoying life. I love to ride and I love my music.

I like the idea of certain music to set the mood. Good choices there.

You should also add the theme to Rocky, for when you're tired and just need to push for a little bit longer.

Some more
  • ZZ Top
  • Kaiser Chiefs have a good one that gets the body bopping and is especially relevant when you are out in the gramadoelas - the chorus is 'Oh my god I can't believe it, I've never been this far away from home'

Also useful to listen to just before you chat to that cage driver who cut in front of you at the last intersection. Smile
